About the job

Based in Flemingsberg, Sweden, you will join Alfa Laval’s Automation Development team, which develops advanced control systems and IoT solutions for Alfa Laval’s core products. As an Electrical Engineer, you will lead the electrical discipline across multiple projects, designing and testing safe, reliable and cost-efficient automation systems throughout the product lifecycle.

This is an opportunity to take ownership of complex electrical designs while collaborating with colleagues across countries and disciplines. You will combine hands-on engineering with design leadership, contributing to everything from customer requirements and electrical calculations to commissioning, troubleshooting and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities:

• Design electrical systems and automation control cabinets for machine applications.
• Create electrical schematics, cabinet layouts, wiring diagrams, electrical documentation and technical reports.
• Cross-competence collaboration with mechanical, process and software engineers to ensure that the electrical design works seamlessly with the machine control system.
• Develop and maintain thorough product documentation in PDM system to support high volume production, sales and aftermarket support, helpdesk & claims handling.
• Select and dimension components such as PLC, HMI, power supplies, motor starters, contactors, relays, frequency drives, cables and safety components.
• Ensure that electrical solutions meet applicable standards, regulations and customer requirements related to marine and land-based (mainly in EU) installations.
• Perform safety calculations using SISTEMA, ensuring our systems meet the highest functional safety standards.

• Conduct EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) analysis and design, ensuring our products meet regulatory requirements and operate reliably in industrial environments. You will address EMC challenges from the early design phase through component selection, best practice and measuring.

• Estimate design hours and coordinate electrical design activities within projects.
• Participate in design reviews and quality assurance processes.
• Support start-up, commissioning and troubleshooting, both remotely and on-site.
• Collaborate across sites, contribute to product development and support the development of less experienced engineers.

Who are you

We are looking for a driven person who enjoys combining complex technical problem-solving with hands-on engineering using modern technologies and tools. You are a proactive and engaged person who takes ownership and is motivated by creating optimized products, continuously striving to improve products and processes. You may have developed a deeper interest in a specific field related to machinery design, such as safety design, CE-marking or CAD expert. Your drive, curiosity, and willingness to collaborate help you turn challenges into practical solutions and contribute positively to the team’s success.

What you know

We believe our ideal candidate has the following experience and knowledge:

• A degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering or an equivalent field.
• Extensive experience designing electrical systems for industrial automation cabinets.
• Advanced experience with EPLAN P8 or a similar electrical design tool.
• Knowledge of SISTEMA for safety calculations and functional safety standards.
• Solid understanding of EMC principles and practical experience with EMC testing and mitigation.
• Experience with heat calculations and thermal management for electrical cabinets.
• Strong knowledge of EN 60204-1, CE-marking of machines and electrical safety requirements.
• Experience with CE-marking process for machinery and related standards.
• Practical hands-on experience from commissioning, maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Fluent written and spoken English.

It is an advantage if you have:

• Experience with marine approvals, verification and related documentation.
• Experience with project management.
