As a Transportation Services Technician, you’ll help community members and visitors navigate Durango’s transit and parking services through friendly and knowledgeable customer service. In this role, you’ll assist customers at the Transit Center, manage sales and account reconciliations, and provide guidance on parking and transit options. When assigned, you’ll also serve in the field as a community ambassador through parking enforcement, helping maintain safe, accessible, and organized parking across the city. Customer Service & Transit Center Operations: 
  • Provide courteous customer service to community members in-person at the Transit Center, over the phone, and via email. 
  • Sell transit passes and parking permits, process payments, and balance daily receipts. 
  • Answer inquiries regarding routes, schedules, parking codes, and citations, and provide clear information and guidance. 
  • Process invoices, citations, and daily financial transactions for the department and Municipal Court. 
  • Handle payment research, correct internal account discrepancies, and complete daily bank deposit and mail runs. 
  • Maintain department filing systems in accordance with city retention policies. 
  • Coordinate reserved parking for special uses with planning staff and construction contractors using Geographic Information System (GIS) tools. 
  • Issue work orders for meter bag requests and dispatch parking complaints to field personnel. 
  • Maintain software and hardware programs associated with transit passes, routes, and parking systems. 
Parking Enforcement (When Assigned): 
  • Patrol assigned areas to enforce municipal parking codes, monitor time zones, and issue citations or warnings. 
  • Serve as an ambassador by providing directions and encouraging compliance with city codes. 
  • Collect meter revenue, perform basic parking meter maintenance, and install or retrieve meter bags for special uses. 
  • Operate vehicle immobilization equipment and monitor booted or abandoned vehicles. 
  • Collect parking occupancy and vacancy data to support parking management and planning. 
  • Assist with downtown traffic control and appear in Municipal Court regarding issued citations when needed. 
  • Observe and report safety, maintenance, access, and other city concerns encountered while on patrol, communicating with the appropriate department to help keep Durango moving smoothly. 
You Have:  
  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent. 
  • At least two years of experience in customer service, including accepting, handling, and recording financial payments. 
  • Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with community members, coworkers, and other City departments in person, by phone, and in writing.

  • Enjoy helping people and can remain professional, patient, and solution-focused when responding to questions. 
  • Pay close attention to detail when handling payments, records, citations, and other transactions. 
  • Can learn and apply city policies, parking regulations, transit information, and applicable laws and procedures. 
  • Are comfortable moving between office-based customer service and active, outdoor field assignments. 
  • Value teamwork, dependability, and safety, acting as reliable eyes and ears for the city to keep Durango moving smoothly.
