Summary

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the administration and application of the office/department’s Human Resource Policies
  • Processes Worker’s Compensation claims
  • Processes FMLA requests and maintains appropriate files on all employees
  • Coordinates with Auditor’s Office and Bexar County Human Resource Office on Human Resource issues
  • Conduct background checks for the department through TCIC/NCIC and other pre-employment screening processes
  • Conducts In and Out Processes employees
  • May represent department on committees
  • Prepares and generates Human Resource reports as required
  • Processes employee verifications and assist in salary survey studies
  • Processes and maintains personnel files, appraisal, timesheets, payroll and light duty
  • Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in Human Resources or closely related field and two (2) years’ experience in Human Resources; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Must have knowledge of personnel policies and practices; knowledge of employment legislation; knowledge of payroll and timekeeping practices; knowledge of standard office practices and procedures, including knowledge of word processing and database software and other computer applications utilized by the office or department
  • Must have skill in organizing and maintaining records; skill in communicating effectively, both orally and in writing; and skill in operating computers using standard word processing, spreadsheets, and database software
  • Must have ability to respond effectively to questions and complaints; ability to organize and maintain data; ability to prepare reports; ability to operate personal computer, typewriter and basic office equipment; ability to prepare payroll; ability to perform complex mathematic calculations; and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Must have a valid driver’s license or available alternate means of transportation
  • Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
  • Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test
  • May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek

Tasks and special requirements unique to an individual office or department may be addressed through a separate list of detailed specifications prepared by that office/department and subject to approval by Human Resources and the Civil Service Commission.  Office/department specifications may not be more complex nor at a higher level of responsibility than any of those contained in this position description

SECTION UNIT - Sheriff

Under general supervision, assists with the administration of the day-to-day operations of the human resources functions and duties. The HR Technician provides information and assistance to BCSO employees and the general public regarding human resources activities, processes, policies, and procedures; prepares various correspondence and memoranda; coordinates activities; and performs a variety of tasks requiring specialized knowledge related to Human Resources

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists with the day-to-day efficient operation of the HR office by performing a wide variety of responsible clerical, technical, administrative, and office support duties
  • Performs customer service, screen and direct emails and telephone calls
  • Take and relay messages
  • Answer questions from employees and the general public regarding human resources issues, rules, and regulations relating to human resources management
  • Respond to employment verification requests, salary and benefit surveys, and other requests for information process
  • Verify, and maintain documentation relating to personnel activities such as staffing, recruitment
  • Training, discipline and grievance processes, appeals, performance evaluations, classifications, and division statistics on caseload information
