Location: Socorro, NM; Luling, TX; Salt Lake City, UT; Huntsville, AL; Sacramento, CA; Potentially Remote

About Us: X-Bow Systems is a cutting-edge aerospace technology company focused on revolutionizing propulsion systems for space exploration and defense applications. Our team of innovative engineers, technicians and scientists is committed to pushing the boundaries of what's possible in rocket propulsion.

Overview: This position carries responsibilities in the X-Bow Advanced Development Organization, reporting to the VP of Advanced Development. The primary responsibilities will focus on managing/leading numerous technical internal research and development (IRAD) efforts. The Advanced development organization is the custodian for all IRAD funds, supporting established programs, future looking innovations in the defense space, and overall X-Bow as the Customer. The breadth of projects managed within the Advanced Development organization is broad, ranging from propellant development, inert aerospace materials development, electronics, analytical tools, prototype/demonstration SRM/AUR development and test, supply chain and processing innovations, lab and prototype testing, etc. As such, this individual will coordinate Advanced Development resources as well as cross-matrixed resources for all efforts being supported; balancing and assigning resources to tasks, tracking resources expenditures and schedules, managing technical trades, and ensuring success of the program. As a Technical Program Manager, you will be given the opportunity to direct and manage numerous AD efforts before the technology/capability is spun out to the internal or external Customer. This position requires self-motivated, highly skilled individuals with a robust SRM and rapid development process background and the ability to use said skills to develop and manage programs with minimal oversight and guidance on timelines shorter than usual in the industry. Expected responsibilities for this position include:

  • Program Planning and Execution:
    • Develop comprehensive program plans that outline objectives, risks, timelines, resources, and budget requirements.
    • Oversee the execution of program plans, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
    • Provide technical guidance to the team that is being led.
  • Team Leadership and Resource Management:
    • Lead and coordinate cross-functional teams, including engineering, manufacturing, test, safety, quality assurance, and supply chain across different projects within the program.
    • Manage resources effectively, ensuring optimal allocation to meet program objectives.
  • Stakeholder Communication and Engagement:
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for all program stakeholders, including team members, executives, and government representatives and external partners.
    • Communicate program progress, challenges, risks, and outcomes to relevant stakeholders, maintaining transparency and collaboration.
  • Risk Management and Problem Solving:
    • Identify, analyze, and mitigate risks that may impact program objectives particularly those related to requirements, technical and manufacturing challenges.
    • Resolve complex issues and conflicts within the program, applying effective problem-solving skills.
  • Quality Assurance and Compliance:
    • Ensure program activities comply with organizational standards, industry regulations, and government requirements.
  • Safety Compliance:
    • Ensure program activities are conducted in a safe manner, adhering to company policies and industry standards.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Implement best practices and lessons learned into future program phases and company-wide initiatives.

Required Experience and Skills

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in program management, project management, project engineering, chief/deputy-chief engineering, or engineering lead role in the aerospace or defense industry. Technical expertise in solid rocket motor and missile system design, development, and advanced manufacturing highly desired.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (e.g., Aerospace, Mechanical) or a related field.
  • Experience in rapid development of prototype/demonstrations solutions to problems with relatively open-ended requirements.
  • Strong understanding of project management principles, methodologies, and tools.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills, capable of working with a broad range of disciplines.
  • Security clearance preferred but not required.
