Full-Time | $19.00/hour | People’s Food Co-op – Ann Arbor, MI

People’s Food Co-op is looking for a full-time Produce Team Lead to help keep our Produce Department stocked, organized, welcoming, and running smoothly.

The Produce Team Lead works closely with the Produce Manager and Produce team to provide excellent customer service, maintain high-quality produce displays, place and receive orders, and help coordinate the department’s daily work. This is a hands-on position that combines produce stocking and customer service with additional leadership and department responsibilities.

What You’ll Do

• Provide friendly, helpful customer service and assist customers with product questions.
• Stock, rotate, cull, and maintain attractive fruit and vegetable displays.
• Monitor product quality and proper storage conditions.
• Assist with receiving deliveries, checking orders, and resolving discrepancies.
• Place produce orders in the Produce Manager’s absence and assist with other ordering as assigned.
• Review invoices, coordinate credits and returns, and assist with pricing.
• Help set daily priorities and provide direction to Produce staff when the Produce Manager is unavailable.
• Help cover scheduling needs and provide feedback and support to department staff.
• Maintain clean and safe work areas, including shelves, bins, coolers, and retail floors.
• Monitor cooler and freezer temperatures and report equipment or safety concerns.
• Participate in store inventories and support other departments when needed.

Requirements

 What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is dependable, organized, comfortable working as part of a team, and enjoys helping customers.

Previous grocery, produce, retail, food service, or supervisory experience is helpful, but equivalent experience and training will be considered.

You should be comfortable:

• Working independently and helping direct the work of others.
• Communicating clearly with customers and coworkers.
• Handling basic math related to pricing, percentages, and inventory.
• Working in a fast-paced retail environment.
• Learning about produce, products, and People’s Food Co-op membership.

Schedule

This is a full-time position requiring a flexible schedule. Availability for some evenings, weekends, and holidays is required.

Pay

$19.00 per hour

Physical Requirements

This is an active position that involves standing and walking for extended periods, reaching, bending, stooping, and regularly lifting and moving products weighing up to 50 pounds. Work occasionally takes place in cool, wet produce cooler conditions and outdoors while receiving or handling products.
