Position Description:

Engages in end‑to‑end engineering of highly complex, multi‑domain systems that span numerous integration points and architectural layers. Independently develops foundational platform components and shared services that support multiple product lines. Designs and implements advanced cloud‑native patterns -- event streaming, distributed caching, and zero‑downtime deployment strategies -- to support large‑scale digital workloads. Performs deep performance engineering, capacity modeling, and resiliency design for mission‑critical systems. Conducts advanced prototyping and feasibility assessments for emerging technologies and architectural approaches. Delivers highly specialized technical solutions that require expert‑level understanding of distributed systems, security models, and large‑scale data flows. Uses business knowledge to translate the vision for divisional initiatives into business solutions by developing complex or multiple software applications and conducting studies of alternatives. Analyzes and recommends changes in project development policies, procedures, standards, and strategies to development experts and management. 

Primary Responsibilities:

• Participates in architecture design teams.
• Defines and implements application-level architecture.
• Develops applications on complex projects, components, and subsystems for the division.
• Recommends development testing tools and methodologies and reviews and validates test plans.
• Responsible for QA readiness of software deliverables.
• Develops comprehensive documentation for multiple applications or subsystems.
• Establishes full project life cycle plans for complex projects across multiple platforms.
• Responsible for meeting project goals on time and on budget.
• Advises on risk assessment and risk management strategies for projects.
• Plans and coordinates complex project schedules and assignments for multiple projects.
• Acts as a primary liaison for business units to resolve various project/technology issues.
• Provides technology solutions to daily issues and technical evaluation estimates on technology initiatives.
• Advises senior management on technical strategy.
• Mentors junior team members.
• Performs independent and complex technical and functional analysis for multiple projects supporting several divisional initiatives. 
• Develops original and creative technical solutions to on-going development efforts.
• Designs and implements scalable, secure, and maintainable application-level architectures aligned with organizational initiatives.
• Recommends development tools, methodologies, and testing strategies to improve quality and efficiency.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and five (5) years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer/Developer (or closely related occupation) implementing and supporting applications and mid-tier services in a financial services or health care environment, using Apache, Tomcat, NodeJS, and Linux.

Or, alternatively, Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and three (3) years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer/Developer (or closely related occupation) implementing and supporting applications and mid-tier services in a financial services or health care environment, using Apache, Tomcat, NodeJS, and Linux.

Skills and Knowledge:

Candidate must also possess:

• Demonstrated Expertise (“DE”) designing, developing, enhancing, and supporting customer-facing enterprise applications (web services, batch processing, and event driven systems) using Java, J2EE, and JavaScript technologies (Struts, Spring, Spring Boot, Angular, and ReactJS), RESTful web services, and SQL/NoSQL databases; and implementing event-driven messaging using Kafka, enforcing Web security standards through OAuth and SAML authentication protocols.  
• DE applying enterprise software engineering principles (SOLID design principles and industry standard design patterns that follow 12 factor application methodology) using React, React.js, and Node.js; developing backend services using Java and Spring Boot; performing code management, containerization, orchestration, Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD), quality checks, and infrastructure automation using GitHub, Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, SonarQube. 
• DE designing, implementing, and executing automated testing and quality‑control frameworks for Java, JavaScript, Cloud-based Web applications, batch-processing systems, and Node.js services, using JUnit, Mockito, Cucumber, Postman, and JMeter; creating technical design documentation (UML sequence diagrams, ERDs, and system design artifacts), using Draw.io; and performing development and debugging processes in Windows and Unix environments using Eclipse, IntelliJ IDEA, and Visual Studio Code. 
• DE deploying, monitoring, and supporting enterprise applications in Cloud environments, and implementing Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines using Jenkins, Maven, and Node Package Manager (NPM); handling source code using Git; tracking work and incidents using Jira and ServiceNow; monitoring application logs and system performance using Splunk and Datadog; and delivering solutions in accordance with Agile development methodologies.

Fidelity’s Onsite Working Model
Fidelity is transitioning to a full-time onsite working model through a phased rollout across regions and roles. Currently, some roles and locations require 100% onsite presence, while others require less. Onsite expectations are likely to evolve as the rollout continues. This transition does not apply to fully remote roles.
