Controls Engineer (Mid-Level)
Location: New Hudson, MI
Job Type: Direct Hire
Schedule: Onsite | Monday-Friday | 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Travel: Approximately 10%
About the Opportunity
An innovative engineering organization is seeking a Mid-Level Controls Engineer to join its Electronics & Controls team. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge prototype vehicle programs involving vehicle electrification, autonomous systems, and advanced mobility technologies.
The ideal candidate enjoys solving complex engineering challenges and has experience developing control algorithms, integrating electronic systems, and validating software through simulation and real-world testing.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement control algorithms for advanced vehicle systems
- Design controls architecture and system functionality using MATLAB/Simulink
- Model, simulate, and validate control systems
- Perform bench testing, hardware-in-the-loop testing, and vehicle testing
- Integrate and commission prototype control systems on development vehicles
- Analyze test data and optimize system performance
- Develop and correlate simulation models with vehicle test results
- Support hardware selection and integration for electronic control systems
- Define controller I/O, wiring, and connector requirements
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams throughout product development
- Participate in customer discussions and technical reviews as needed
Required Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree in:
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Automotive Engineering
- Computer Engineering
- Computer Science
- Mechatronics
- Or a related engineering discipline
- Minimum 3 years of controls engineering experience
- Experience developing and deploying control algorithms on real-world systems
- Strong Model-Based Design experience using MATLAB/Simulink
- Experience conducting system testing and analyzing test data
- Strong technical communication and problem-solving skills
Preferred Experience
Experience with one or more of the following is highly desirable:
- MATLAB
- Simulink
- Stateflow
- Embedded software development
- MotoHawk, Raptor, OpenECU, or dSPACE
- CAN communication and Vector tools (CANalyzer, CANape)
- Vehicle simulation software (CarSim, TruckSim, ADAMS, Dymola)
- Data acquisition systems
- Embedded C programming
- Electric and hybrid vehicle systems
- Autonomous or by-wire vehicle controls
- CAN, LIN, Ethernet, and wireless communication protocols
- Hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, or mechanical system modeling
- Automotive, defense, robotics, or motorsports engineering

- Direct hire opportunity
- Onsite position in New Hudson, Michigan
- Approximately 10% travel, primarily within the Great Lakes region
- Must be eligible to work in an ITAR-controlled environment. U.S. citizenship is required
