The role of 3M an SIBG Undergraduate Marketing Intern is intended to start in Summer 2027.

An internship is a temporary position within 3M. Interns typically work a full-time schedule throughout a 10-12 week assignment. This position is limited to working 899 hours per service credit year.
This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military experience to a 3M career.
About the Safety & Industrial Business Group:
The Safety and Industrial Business Group (SIBG) at 3M offers a diverse range of products designed to enhance safety, productivity, and efficiency across various industries. Key product categories include personal safety (respiratory, hearing, eye, and fall protection), abrasives (coated, bonded, and non-woven), adhesives and tapes (industrial adhesives and various tapes), electrical markets (electrical tapes, wire connectors, and cable management), automotive aftermarket (collision repair and automotive tapes and adhesives), and industrial and safety markets (safety solutions and industrial maintenance products).
The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As a 3M SIBG Undergraduate Marketing Intern, you’ll get the opportunity to explore marketing within 3M’s Safety and Industrial Business Group. Depending on your team placement, you may work in areas such as portfolio/business marketing, product marketing, global marketing, commercial and demand generation marketing, or customer and market insights.
In this role, you may support projects such as market research, customer insights, product positioning, digital campaigns, launch planning, competitive analysis, or go-to-market execution. You’ll collaborate with marketing managers and cross-functional partners across product management, sales, R&D, finance, operations, and commercial teams while building practical skills in strategic thinking, data analysis, communication, project management, and teamwork.
Daily tasks can include, but are not limited to:
· Conduct market research, customer analysis, and competitive assessments to identify trends, customer needs, growth opportunities, and business risks.
· Support product marketing activities, including value proposition development, product messaging, lifecycle support, launch planning, and sales enablement materials.
· Assist with new product launch activities by helping develop presentations, customer-facing content, positioning materials, and internal communication resources.
· Analyze marketing, customer, product, and campaign performance data to evaluate business opportunities, customer adoption, market share, pipeline contribution, and growth potential.
· Support digital marketing and demand generation efforts, including email campaigns, website content updates, marketing automation activities, trade show support, content development, and campaign performance tracking.
· Partner with marketing, sales, product management, R&D, finance, operations, and commercial teams to align priorities, support go-to-market execution and help bring customer-focused solutions to market.
· Contribute to strategic projects that improve market understanding, strengthen brand awareness, enhance customer engagement, support revenue growth, and drive profitable growth across SIBG businesses.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
· Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree, or higher, from an accredited institution.
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
· Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, Data Analytics, Economics, Engineering, or a related field.
· Demonstrated interest in B2B marketing, product marketing, portfolio marketing, digital marketing, market research, customer insights, or demand generation.
· Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, summarize insights, and make business recommendations.
· Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop presentations, marketing materials, and clear business updates.
· Experience working with Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel and PowerPoint; exposure to marketing analytics, CRM, or digital marketing platforms is a plus.
· Strong project management skills with the ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and contribute to multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
· Collaborative mindset with an interest in working across functions such as marketing, sales, product management, finance, operations, and R&D.
Work location:
· This Role has an on-site working model, with the employees working at least four (4) days a week in the office at 3M Center, located in Maplewood, MN or Austin, TX
Travel: May include up to 10% domestic travel
