Job Description

Position Summary:

Rockwell Automation is building machine vision and visual inspection into the Automation Control Software portfolio, alongside Studio 5000 Logix Designer, FactoryTalk Optix, and Data Mosaix. You will own the infrastructure underneath it - the multi-tenant cloud, the secure edge operating system, the provisioning path that gets a device from a shipping box to a running inspection station, and the build and release machinery the engineering team depends on.

This is a principal-level role spanning cloud architecture, edge platform, and security. The systems you own run in customer plants where an outage is a stopped line, and where the security posture has to hold up to industrial and enterprise scrutiny alike.

You will build in an AI-first engineering environment - coding agents running inside a harness we own, evals gating AI-generated changes, GitHub Copilot Enterprise and Claude in the daily loop, and MCP-based tooling that lets agents reach real build, test, and telemetry systems under human-in-the-loop review. You will own the governance boundary on what agents are allowed to reach in production infrastructure.

This role will have a remote schedule and will report to the Director, Software Engineering.

Your Responsibilities:

• Own the architecture and operation of the multi-tenant cloud services, including availability, scaling, and cost.
• Own the secure, containerized edge operating system and the zero-touch provisioning path for field devices.
• Design and operate CI/CD, build, and release infrastructure, including artifact management and environment reliability.
• Own the security posture across cloud, edge, and the software supply chain, including signing and secrets management.
• Drive audit and certification readiness for the platform, including evidence collection and control ownership.
• Drive cloud cost reduction through architecture and optimization, with measurable targets.
• Define what agents are permitted to reach in build, deploy, and production systems, and the review gates around it.

The Essentials - You Will Have:

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent years of relevant work experience.
• Legal authorization to work in the US is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.

The Preferred - You Might Also Have:

• Typically requires 8+ years of related experience in a software product development environment.
• Bachelor's or advanced degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Experience architecting and operating multi-tenant cloud services in production
• Experience owning CI/CD and release infrastructure for a shipping product
• Depth in AWS or Azure, infrastructure as code, containers, and orchestration.
• Experience with immutable or containerized Linux on edge devices, including update and rollback strategy.
• Experience with device provisioning at scale - identity, attestation, and zero-touch onboarding.
• Ownership of a security certification or audit program such as SOC 2, IEC 62443, or equivalent.
• Experience with software supply chain security - signing, SBOM, dependency and artifact integrity.
• Demonstrated cloud cost optimization with quantified results.

This position is part of a job family. Experience will be the determining factor for position level and compensation.

For this role, the Base Salary Compensation is from $139,680.00 - 209,520.00 USD with an annual target bonus of 8% of base salary. Our company benefits for the US can be found here. Actual pay will be based on factors such as skills, knowledge, education, and experience.
