Job Description:
Amherst College invites applications for the Casual Athletics Communications Assistant position. The Casual Athletics Communications Assistant is a part-time (up to 19 hours per week), academic-year (42 weeks), casual position with no benefits. The expected salary range for this job opportunity is: $16 - $17 per hour.
The salary offered will vary based on a number of factors, including but not limited to relevant education, training, and experience, tenure status, and other nondiscriminatory business considerations.
The Casual Athletics Communications Assistant serves as a media contact for selected sports and manages game-day statistics using software like PrestoStats and NCAA Genius LiveStats. This role involves drafting press releases, creating engaging social media content via the Adobe Creative Suite, and supervising student game day staff.
Summary of Responsibilities:
•Serve as a primary media contact for selected sports
•Maintain in-game and cumulative statistics
•Oversee student worker athletic communications staff on game days
•Write press releases, including game recaps, award announcements, and student profiles for amherst.athletics.edu
•Assist with the management of the department’s social media platforms and in the creation of photo and video content
Qualifications:
Required
• Strong time management and organizational skills with an ability to work independently
• Excellent writing and editing abilities
• Familiarity with Adobe Suite and statistical programs preferred
• Working knowledge of intercollegiate athletics and their specific playing rules, NCAA regulations, and statistics
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work nights and weekends
• Successful completion of required reference and background checks
• An acceptable criminal offender records information (CORI) check
The Amherst College Athletic Communications Office uses Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Lightroom, Premiere Pro) as our primary editing software and PrestoStats and NCAA Genius LiveStats as our primary stat software.
