Description
This employee is responsible for performing maintenance tasks of an unskilled or semi-skilled nature, to include cutting grass, loading and unloading dirt, mulch, gravel, trash and other debris, including collection and disposal of refuse on the park grounds and buildings. Duties may also include field maintenance of the playing areas. Though most of this employee’s work is specifically outlined, at times instructions to the employee may be somewhat general, and the employee must sometimes use his/her own judgment and deviate from standard operating procedures to get the job done. This is a part-time, non-exempt position reporting to the Park Maintenance Superintendent.
- Mow the grass on schedule with riding and/or push mowers and trim with weed eater.
- Maintain and clean all mowing equipment and tools regularly; Unlock and secure all park buildings and facilities for use.
- Paint and maintain all play equipment and check monthly.
- Check tennis courts, basketball courts and equipment on a regularly scheduled basis.
- General maintenance and cleaning of the Community Center, parks and restrooms.
- Maintain fences.
- Assist with carpentry.
- Landscape Park areas.
- Regularly pick up and dispose of debris.
- Ball field maintenance including preparing fields for gameplay.
- Light janitorial work.
- Uses pesticides and fertilizers under the direction of Park Maintenance Supervisor.
- Fills in for absentee employees when necessary.
- May operate other machinery as necessary.
- performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of the correct and safe operation of vehicles and equipment; Knowledge of grounds and building maintenance.
- Knowledge of the materials, equipment and tools (both power and hand) used to perform the work.
- Knowledge of the City ‘s personnel policy, other policies and procedures, basic safety practices and OSHA regulations.
- Ability to read, write and understand directions, both oral and written; Ability to lift heavy objects weighing more than 100 pounds at a time; Ability to use garden and landscape chemicals safely.
- Ability to work in dust, noise, smoke, fumes, in high places, and in any weather conditions if necessary.
- Ability to intermittently sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, crouch, climb and crawl in order to perform all types of indoor and outdoor maintenance.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; and Ability to be “on call” nights and weekends, and as often as necessary
EQUIPMENT/JOB LOCATION
The employee will operate a pickup truck, tractors, riding and push mowers, weed eater, chain saws, utility cart, pressure washer, skill saw, hedge clippers, small hand tools such as rakes, shovels, hoes and paint brushes, and a 2-way radio. Work is typically performed outdoors, sometimes regardless of severe weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to smoke, dust, fumes, loud noise, tobacco smoke, landscape and garden chemicals, dangerous machinery with moving parts, sharp tools, and may have to work in high places. The work may require lifting heavy objects of 100 pounds or more. The employee must intermittently sit, stand, stoop, walk, crouch, bend, crawl and climb.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma (or approved equivalent).
- One (1) year previous experience in maintenance field.
- Must hold a valid Tennessee Driver’s License.
