POSITION SUMMARY:
Dive into a rewarding opportunity as the YMCA’s Swim Lesson Coordinator, where your passion for water safety and youth development can make a splash! Under the guidance of the Aquatics Director, you’ll lead and strengthen our swim lesson program in alignment with the Y Swim Lessons V6 and Safety Around Water curricula. This engaging, hands-on role combines leadership, instruction, and creativity, with approximately 25–30 hours each week dedicated to program administration, teaching group or private swim lessons, and helping promote our aquatics programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Manage and teach group and private swim lessons for participants ages 6 months and older.
- Oversee class schedules, instructor assignments, staff coverage, program flyers, data entry, and other administrative responsibilities.
- Manage the swim lesson program in Daxko by creating classes, maintaining rosters and waitlists, adjusting enrollment, adding classes as needed, and generating reports.
- Schedule and lead instructor in-service training at least four times per year.
- Equip instructors with progression and attendance sheets, mid-session progress forms, and end-of-session certificates in accordance with the YMCA Swim Lessons v6 toolkit.
- Communicate with families through welcome emails, parent orientations, session updates, and makeup-lesson notifications.
- Be available to welcome participants and speak with parents on the first and last class dates of each session.
- Provide timely feedback to participants and guardians, track report cards, and support advancement through swim levels.
- Monitor registrations, class enrollment, and program performance in relation to the budget.
- Partner with Marketing to update website information, events, and session dates.
- Recognize participant achievements and maintain a high level of member service by answering questions and resolving concerns.
- Order approved program supplies and ensure instructional materials are available.

Requirements
QUALIFICIATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- One to three years of swim lesson instruction experience.
- Knowledge of swim lesson stages and skill progressions for participants ages 6 months and older.
- Strong communication, organization, customer-service, and interpersonal skills.
CERTIFICATIONS:
- Current CPR and lifeguard certifications.
- Current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor or American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification.
- YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor v6 certification required within 120 days of hire; training will be provided by the YMCA.
AQUATICS SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
- Knowledge of aquatic safety, facility rules, and emergency procedures.
- Ability to respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies and complete required reports.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe instructional environment and supporting the YMCA’s Safety Around Water program.
- Ensure instructional equipment and materials are available, safe, and used appropriately.
YMCA SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
CPR & First Aid – Must be able to complete and maintain certification in CPR and First Aid; able to assist individuals in need until professional help arrives.
Emergency Response – Ability to quickly identify emergency situations (medical, fire, environmental, etc.) and respond appropriately following established procedures.
Incident Management – Required to report all safety incidents and hazards immediately and accurately to supervisors.
Safe Environment – Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and hazard-free environment for all staff, members, and participants.
Physical Readiness – Must be able to perform physical tasks related to safety, including assisting individuals of various ages and physical abilities.
Compliance – Follow all YMCA safety protocols, OSHA standards, and state/local regulations as applicable.
