Tenure faculty (regardless of rank) - persons with the titles of professor, associate professor, assistant professor and instructor who serve on appointments totaling 50% or more service to the university and who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure. Duties and responsibilities are assigned in accordance with the workload guidelines laid out in the pattern of administration of each faculty member’s tenure initiation unit (TIU) and, as appropriate, regional campus; obligations will include research, service and/or teaching or clinical practice.  These faculty will have earned doctorate or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study or possession of equivalent experience.

Additional Information:

The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute is establishing a new Center for Cancer Survivorship dedicated to becoming a national leader in survivorship research, education, community engagement, and policy advancement. The Center will build upon Ohio State's longstanding strengths in cancer prevention and control, behavioral science, implementation science, health services research, and population health to create a coordinated enterprise focused exclusively on improving outcomes for cancer survivors and their caregivers.

Cancer survivorship represents one of the most significant and rapidly growing challenges in oncology. Advances in prevention, early detection, and treatment have resulted in a continually expanding population of cancer survivors who face complex physical, psychological, social, financial, and healthcare system challenges throughout their lives. Survivorship care requires innovative research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and effective implementation of evidence-based interventions to address these needs.

The Center for Cancer Survivorship will serve as a multidisciplinary hub that brings together investigators, clinicians, trainees, healthcare professionals, patients, caregivers, community organizations, and policy leaders to advance survivorship science and transform survivorship care delivery. The Center will leverage Ohio State's nationally recognized expertise in cancer control research and community engagement to improve quality of life, reduce disparities, enhance long-term outcomes, and create scalable models of survivorship care that can be implemented nationally and globally.

The Center will focus on several strategic domains, including:

• Survivorship outcomes research
• Symptom management and supportive care
• Behavioral intervention science
• Digital health and remote monitoring
• Health equity and survivorship disparities
• Implementation and dissemination science
• Patient-reported outcomes
• Caregiver and family support
• Rural and underserved populations
• Healthcare delivery and survivorship care models
• Workforce development and training
• Population health and survivorship policy

The Center will serve as a flagship initiative within the Department of Population Sciences and the Division of Cancer Prevention and Control and will establish Ohio State as one of the nation's premier institutions for cancer survivorship research and practice.

The Division of Cancer Prevention and Control invites applications for the inaugural Director of the Center for Cancer Survivorship.

The Director will be a nationally or internationally recognized scholar at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor with a distinguished record of leadership, scientific achievement, extramural funding, mentorship, and interdisciplinary collaboration in cancer survivorship or a closely related field.

The Director will provide visionary leadership for the establishment, growth, and long-term success of the new Center. Working closely with institutional leadership, faculty, clinicians, community partners, and external stakeholders, the Director will develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to position the Center as a national model for survivorship research, education, outreach, and policy impact.

The successful candidate will maintain an active and externally funded research program while providing leadership across all aspects of Center development, including strategic planning, faculty recruitment, scientific programming, partnership development, mentoring, fundraising, and community engagement.

The Director will have four primary areas of responsibility:

Scientific Leadership

Establish and lead the Center's scientific vision and research agenda to advance understanding and improvement of cancer survivorship outcomes.

Center Development and Administration

Build and oversee all components of the Center, including infrastructure, strategic initiatives, governance, collaborative programs, faculty engagement, and operational priorities.

Research Excellence and Innovation

Develop a vibrant and collaborative scientific community that attracts nationally competitive funding and produces high-impact research.

Education, Mentorship, and Outreach

Create opportunities for training, community engagement, translational research, and dissemination of survivorship innovations that improve lives.

Required Qualifications

• PhD, MD, DO, DrPH, PharmD, PsyD, DNP, or other terminal degree in a discipline relevant to cancer survivorship.
• Eligible for appointment as an Associate Professor or Professor within the College of Medicine.
• Nationally recognized record of scholarly achievement in survivorship research or related fields.
• Demonstrated record of sustained extramural funding.
• Significant experience leading multidisciplinary research programs or centers.
• Strong record of mentoring faculty, fellows, postdoctoral scholars, and students.
• Demonstrated success building collaborative scientific initiatives.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.

Desired Qualifications

• International reputation in cancer survivorship research.
• Experience launching, growing, or directing a research center, institute, program, or large collaborative initiative.
• Experience leading NCI, NIH, PCORI, CDC, ACS, foundation, or large multi-site research grants.
• Demonstrated success recruiting and developing high-performing research teams.
• Experience engaging healthcare systems, advocacy organizations, and community partners.
• Experience translating research findings into policy, healthcare delivery, or population health impact.
• Experience securing philanthropic support and participating in fundraising activities.

Faculty Defined
Clinical faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with titles of assistant professor-clinical, associate professor-clinical and professor-clinical. These faculty will have earned a Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field. Clinical faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of three to five years. They may be reappointed to successive terms. Their principal career focus is the delivery of exemplary clinical care, and may include teaching, and/or research. ​

Tenure-Track faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with the titles of assistant professor, associate professor, or professor who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD), Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Their primary career focus centers on research, service, and teaching. Tenure-track faculty with MD, DO or MD/PhD degrees may also be involved in clinical care.​

Research Faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with the titles of research assistant professor, research associate professor, or research professor. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Research faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of one to five years. Their principal career focus is research.​
