Marlin & Doris Thomas Memory Center

Join our founding team at the Memory Center! Start dates for these positions are anticipated between December 2026 and January 2027.

Full Time | $18.00/hour

Schedule: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM or 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM + some weekends and some holidays

Position Summary

The Porter serves as a warm, reassuring presence throughout the Marlin & Doris Thomas Memory Center, supporting Residents by providing gentle guidance, mobility assistance, and concierge-style service.

This unique role blends hospitality, safety awareness, and compassionate engagement to help Residents feel respected, oriented, and free to move about the community with confidence. The Porter helps maintain the rhythm of daily life through wayfinding support, resident escorts, transportation assistance, maintaining welcoming spaces, and supporting both Residents and staff with daily needs.

What You'll Do

Resident Support & Engagement

  • Provide gentle assistance, wayfinding, and redirection while preserving resident dignity and independence.
  • Engage Residents in warm, respectful conversation that offers reassurance, companionship, and validation.
  • Support Residents as they move throughout the community, including dining venues, activities, appointments, and outdoor spaces.
  • Assist with resident transportation using wheelchairs and mobility aids when needed.
  • Observe and report changes in resident behavior, safety concerns, or environmental hazards.
  • Foster understanding of brain health and neurodegenerative disease among Residents, families, and visitors.

Hospitality & Customer Service

  • Serve as a welcoming presence for Residents, families, guests, and vendors.
  • Support community events, engagement programs, and family visits.
  • Provide concierge-style assistance including directions, retrieving items, and connecting Residents with appropriate Team Members.
  • Help create a positive, supportive environment focused on resident wellbeing and exceptional customer service.

Community & Operational Support

  • Maintain clean, organized, and welcoming common areas and gathering spaces.
  • Assist with event setup and breakdown, including tables, chairs, and decorations.
  • Transport linens, supplies, snacks, mail, packages, equipment, and other items throughout the community.
  • Assist with trash removal and stocking household necessities.
  • Submit maintenance and IT support requests as needed.
  • Support secure yet welcoming pathways and vendor escorting efforts.
  • Attend daily team huddles to anticipate resident and community needs.
  • Collaborate with Care Partners, Nurses, Life's Pleasures, Among Friends, Concierge, Volunteers, Security, and Town Services teams.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to walk frequently, provide physical assistance, and safely use mobility-related equipment.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm in changing situations.
  • Commitment to protecting resident privacy, dignity, and safety.

Preferred

  • Experience in hospitality, customer service, senior living, memory care, healthcare, or other people-focused roles.
  • Familiarity with dementia-friendly communication techniques or willingness to complete training.
  • Basic housekeeping or maintenance knowledge, or willingness to learn.
  • Experience safely transporting individuals with mobility challenges.
  • CPR certification.
  • Safe Food Handler Certification.
