Are you ready for the next step in your career and want to combine your passion for forestry with your expertise in leadership, communication, and analysis? Are you driven by technology, analytical, and experienced in leading complex development projects? If so, you may be our next Harvesting Development Specialist—a key role contributing to our sustainability agenda and strategy to replace fossil-based materials with renewable resources.

With us, you will have the opportunity to influence how modern harvesting is conducted by developing working methods, digital solutions, and technologies that create value across the entire chain—from planning to execution.

With us, the forest, people, and business grow together.

As a Harvesting Development Specialist, you are a central technical key resource responsible for driving and executing development projects from idea to implemented results within harvesting and timber value. You will plan, coordinate, implement, and deliver project objectives while ensuring that developed solutions are translated into practical application in operations.

The role involves close collaboration within an international team across Finland and Sweden, working at the intersection of different functions and stakeholders. You will operate both strategically and operationally, driving initiatives related to method development, data analysis, digitalization, and optimization of the harvesting process—with a focus on increased timber value, efficiency, and quality. The role also includes ensuring anchoring, follow-up, and continuous improvement of implemented solutions.

The position belongs to Harvesting Development, a subunit of Operations Development. Office location can be within the business area.

Responsibilities include:

  • Optimize timber value and harvesting outcomes through analysis, modeling, and the development of improved methods and processes
  • Analyze and manage large datasets to support decision-making, simulations, and improvement initiatives
  • Act as one of the key links between Precision Forestry development and harvesting operations
  • Develop and implement new technologies and digital solutions to support harvesting operations (e.g., digital tools, system support, sensor data, and optimization solutions)
  • Act as a link between operations and machine manufacturers in technical development projects
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with procurement, contractor operations, planning, and production support
  • Ensure documentation, follow-up, and reporting to secure methodology, compliance, and quality
  • Contribute to standardization and competence development within harvesting across the organization

Skills and qualifications

In order for you to be successful in this role, we expect you to have to following skills and qualifications:

  • Relevant university degree in forestry, engineering, data science, industrial engineering, or another quantitative field
  • Demonstrated ability to independently solve complex technical and analytical problems
  • Experience working with and analyzing large, complex datasets
  • Experience developing or applying optimization models, operations research, mathematical programming, simulation, or similar analytical techniques
  • Proficiency in Python and/or R for data analysis, statistical modeling, and data processing
  • Interest in digitalization, emerging technologies, and data-driven ways of working
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across functions
  • Fluent in Finnish and English, both written and spoken
  • Valid driver's license (Category B)
  • Willingness to travel, primarily within Finland

Additional skills:

  • Good understanding of forestry operations, harvesting, and wood supply processes
  • Experience from technical development projects in forestry, manufacturing, logistics, or other industrial environments
  • Experience with GIS, spatial analysis, or geospatial datasets
