Deputy Responsible Pharmacist

Our client is seeking a highly organised and compliance-driven Deputy Responsible Pharmacist to join their Cape Town operation. This senior-level opportunity is ideal for a pharmacist who combines strong regulatory knowledge with exceptional attention to detail, sound judgement and the ability to maintain high standards across pharmaceutical warehousing and distribution activities. The successful candidate will support and deputise for the Responsible Pharmacist while ensuring operations remain compliant with applicable pharmaceutical legislation, regulatory requirements and quality standards.

Responsibilities:

• Ensure compliance with the Medicines and Related Substances Act, Pharmacy Act, SAHPRA requirements and relevant GDP/GWP guidelines.
• Support and maintain an effective Quality Management System.
• Review, approve and implement Standard Operating Procedures, validation protocols and quality documentation.
• Manage deviations, non-conformances, CAPAs, risk assessments and audit findings.
• Oversee the appropriate storage, handling, release, quarantine, return and disposal of pharmaceutical products.
• Manage Schedule 5 and Schedule 6 stock, registers and Section 21 items.
• Support product release, recalls, pharmacovigilance reporting and customer complaint processes.
• Prepare for internal, external and regulatory audits and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
• Maintain appropriate pharmaceutical records, licences and regulatory documentation.
• Provide GDP/GWP training and ensure employees adhere to approved procedures.
• Build effective relationships with SAHPRA, the Department of Health, SAPC, internal stakeholders and service providers.
• Deputise for the Responsible Pharmacist and assume RP responsibilities when required.
• Provide after-hours support in the event of critical operational or cold-chain emergencies.

Requirements:

• Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) degree.
• Current registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
• 2–3 years' experience as a Pharmacist or Deputy Pharmacist.
• Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical legislation, quality systems and regulatory compliance.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Pharmaceutical distribution or wholesale experience would be advantageous.
• Quality Management System experience would be advantageous.
• Oracle R12 experience would be advantageous.
• Strong communication, project management, planning and time-management skills.
• Excellent attention to detail with a strong quality and compliance orientation.
• Ability to analyse information, prioritise effectively and perform under pressure.
• Independent, output-driven and service-orientated approach with strong teamwork skills.
