Summary of Position:
The purpose of this position is to provide administrative and analytical support to the Public Works department. This part-time position provides a valuable opportunity to gain a unique view of the inner workings of Town government, as well as gain entry-level public sector experience.
- This position is classified as temporary and does not qualify for benefits.
- Temporary employees are limited to working 950 hours in a 12-month period.
- hourly rate range from $20.00 -$23.00 based on experience.

What you can expect to be doing (Essential Functions):
- Provides customer service and clerical support to the department, including phone, email, and front desk support as needed.
- Responds to inquiries and concerns from residents, providing accurate information, guidance, and assistance as needed.
- Assists the Management Analyst in coordinating the fiscal operations of the department, such as budget development, reporting, and accounts payable support functions.
- Assists in digitizing and updating internal operating procedures, developing staff-facing resources, and supports records management needs.
- Conducts research, analyzes data, and prepares reports and recommendations to staff.
- Coordinates and manages special projects, such as performance measure and benchmark evaluation.
- Completes all other duties as assigned.

What are the physical demands?
The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table, with intermittent standing or stooping. The employee uses equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
Where and how do you work?
The work is typically performed in an office. This position is in person at the Town of Chapel Hill Public Works Department at 6850 Millhouse Road.

Knowledge of:
- Principles of customer service
- Clerical, purchasing, and budgeting processes
- Research, analysis, and report development preferred

Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Students with a background in Public Administration, Public Policy or a related field are encouraged to apply.
Experience:
One year of administrative, clerical, or customer service experience required.
