We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Civil Engineering Lecturer to join our team on a casual basis, contributing to the delivery of high-quality, industry-focused education within the civil engineering sector.
As part of our ongoing commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, we are looking for motivated and forward-thinking professionals with strong technical knowledge and industry experience in civil engineering. This is an excellent opportunity for industry professionals to share their expertise and support the development of the next generation of civil engineers.
Working on a casual basis, you will deliver engaging teaching, learning and assessment across programmes from Level 1 to Level 5, including evening provision where required. You will create inclusive, supportive and stimulating learning environments that enable students to achieve their full potential, while bringing current industry practices, professional standards and real-world experience into your teaching.
You may deliver both practical and theoretical aspects of civil engineering, including areas such as construction technology, structural principles, surveying, civil engineering materials, geotechnics, infrastructure, highways, sustainable construction, and health and safety.
You will also contribute to assessment, curriculum development and the continuous improvement of teaching and learning, ensuring that delivery remains relevant, current and aligned with industry requirements.

Key Responsibilities
- To contribute fully to the mission and values statement of the College ensuring its effective implementation in all aspects of College life
- To contribute to the College and curriculum area strategic objectives and to actively engage in the annual review
- To be aware of national developments in subject area and update knowledge and skills on an annual basis
- To plan, prepare and deliver high quality lessons in order to achieve effective management of the learning process
- Plan and use a range of effective and appropriate teaching and learning techniques to engage and motivate students and encourage independence and student autonomy
- Establish a purposeful and motivating learning environment where students feel safe, secure, confident and valued
- Establish and maintain procedures with students which promote and maintain appropriate behaviour, communication and respect for others, while challenging discriminatory behaviour and attitudes
- To set and mark work in accordance with College and School Assessment policies, to record work carried out and assessment of same
- To track all students’ progress and attendance in accordance with agreed College systems and policies
- To provide a balance of appropriate teaching styles and learning experiences
- To be aware of external/internal assessment procedures and to play and appropriate part in their implementation
- Evaluate and improve own communication skills to maximise effective communication and overcome barriers
- To liaise with Deputy Head/Head of School in contributing to the design of programmes and teaching approaches which will enable curriculum areas to achieve high standards and value added
- To liaise with Deputy Head/Head of School and curriculum teams in contributing to the administration necessary to support the teaching, learning and assessment within the subject area
- To work with colleagues with relevant expertise to identify and address additional student English and Maths skills development in subject area

- To review own professional development needs and to participate fully in future training and development
- To communicate and consult with parents, carers and students including Parent’s Evening, Welcome Evenings, Open evenings and other college events
- To ensure that all students in the subject area comply with College’s policies and procedures

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential Criteria
- Degree level relevant to the subject area
- Relevant vocational experience in Civil Engineering
- Recent experience of teaching and assessing on professional construction courses
- A recognised teaching qualification or willingness to complete
- Knowledge and understanding of professional construction provision
- Proven relevant experience of curriculum planning, development & delivery in professional construction
- Excellent computer literacy
- Engaged in continuing professional development
- Minimum of Level 3 literacy and numeracy or willingness to complete
- High level of communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to set high standards for students, colleagues and for themselves
Desirable Criteria
- Experience of resource based learning
- Membership of a relevant professional body
- Experience of assessing students’ needs and planning curriculum for their benefit including Technology Enhanced Learning
- Good understanding of curriculum development to meet the training needs of employers
- Good understanding of quality assurance and improvement processes
