Description
Major Activities / Responsibilities:
- Drive MSH staff while maintaining passenger confidence on their safety and security and timely transport to destination.
- Assist with proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely servicing of vehicle so that the vehicle is always kept clean and in good running condition (exterior car wash and interior cleaning/vacuuming; change oil, purchase of battery etc.).
- Ensure cost-savings through proper use of the vehicle.
- Inspect vehicles before and after every trip.
- Ensure all trips are supported by approved trip authorization forms.
- Coordinate with admin unit on trip scheduling.
- Promptly complete logbook and other daily vehicle records.
- Assist in ensuring vehicle registration; licenses, insurance, etc. are current and compliant with road regulations.
- Provide office support on maintaining a clean environment within office premises.
- Provide messenger services.
- Carry out any other responsibility as assigned by the supervisor.
- Ensuring the physical security of the vehicle when parked or in use, including staying abreast of road conditions, weather or other situations that would impact safe operations.
- Obeying all traffic rules including adherence to all posted speed limits.
- Safekeeping of the keys to the vehicle.
- Taking care of routine maintenance of vehicles and of any accessories supplied with the vehicle.
- Ensuring full onboard documentation (e.g. registration, license, insurance).
- Knowing how to use onboard equipment such as 4x4, navigation systems, radios or winches.
- Knowing how to change tires and jumpstart a battery.
- Completing routine vehicle checks.
- Maintaining the vehicle’s log sheet.
- Completing accurate trip reports for every trip.
- Ensuring that the vehicle has sufficient fuel and other fluids.
- As appropriate, ensuring that the vehicle is equipped with basic needs for safety and comfort in the event of breakdowns or other delays, including snacks, drinking water, first aid kit, road flares and a charged cell phone.
- Ensuring that the vehicle is equipped with basic maintenance and safety equipment, including a fire extinguisher, jack, tire iron, spanner, and other items as required by applicable Fleet Management Plan.
- Maintaining the external and internal cleanliness of the vehicle.
- Report any fines incurred for traffic violations, or reparations due to negligence or accidents to Security and Transport Offer or to the Finance, Administration and Finance Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION:
- Completion of Secondary School.
REQUIRED MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
- At least two 1-2 years of experience working in an environment
- similar to or closely related to MSH type of work
- Valid Afghanistan driver’s license.
- Chauffeur experience.
- Experience driving in and familiarity with conflict areas.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Driving, troubleshooting (mechanical, electrical).
- Metro main roads, landmarks; inner streets.
- Knowledge of current/new traffic rules and regulations.
- Knowledge on measures to ensure cost-savings through proper use of vehicle; timely maintenance, repairs, purchase of parts for replacement; efficient scheduling of trips.
- Ensure driver’s licence is valid and renew when needed.
- Ability to provide proof of good driving record.
- Ability to perform minor repairs of vehicle. Previous auto mechanic experience helpful.
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects and perform other strenuous tasks.
- Administrative experience with experience performing computations preferred.
- Demonstrated punctuality, attention to detail, patience, good humour, flexibility, and overall positive attitude.
- A neat and professional appearance.
- Proficiency in local languages and English
