Job Description
The Helper supports the safe, reliable, and efficient transportation and storage of natural gas. Working under the direct supervision of an Operator or higher-grade employee, this role assists with gas leak investigations, maintenance activities, pipeline operations, facility inspections, and emergency response efforts. The successful candidate will gain hands-on experience supporting gas storage, compression, distribution, and maintenance operations while contributing to a strong culture of safety and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety & Emergency Response
- Respond to emergency and priority situations involving gas facilities and infrastructure.
- Assist with the investigation and identification of gas leaks on company systems.
- Take appropriate measures to help ensure the safety of employees, customers, the public, and company assets.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Gas Storage & Compression Operations
Under the supervision of a qualified Operator or higher-grade employee:
- Assist in the operation of natural gas compressors and associated station equipment.
- Support operation and monitoring of compressor station systems, including:
- Emergency generators
- Instrument air compressors
- Process heat exchangers
- Pumps and utility systems
- Fuel gas heaters
- Safety and control systems
- Record operating data and maintain accurate equipment and station logs.
- Assist with monitoring gas flow, pressures, and storage field operations.
- Support gathering system and well operation activities.
Maintenance & Inspection
- Assist with routine, scheduled, and preventive maintenance on company facilities and equipment.
- Perform minor equipment repairs and adjustments under supervision.
- Conduct inspections of pipelines, valves, gathering systems, and related infrastructure.
- Support calibration and testing of gas detection and fire protection systems.
- Assist Instrument Technicians, Electricians, and other field personnel with maintenance and installation projects.
- Help maintain vehicles, tools, power equipment, and grounds.
Pipeline & Construction Support
- Participate in leak surveys, leak investigations, and damage prevention activities.
- Locate and mark underground facilities using company-approved locating equipment.
- Support excavation activities following safe digging practices and company standards.
- Install and remove protective excavation systems and barriers.
- Assist with hydrostatic testing programs and pipeline integrity activities.
- Load, unload, secure, and organize materials and equipment.
- Operate hand and power tools safely and effectively.
Field Operations Support
- Assist with well work, drilling operations, and casing inspections.
- Monitor cathodic protection systems on pipelines and storage wells.
- Operate and maintain fire protection equipment.
- Perform general facility upkeep including:
- Mowing grass
- Brush removal
- Snow removal
- Building maintenance
- Housekeeping activities
Communication & Customer Service
- Communicate effectively using radios and other field communication equipment.
- Maintain professional communications with customers, contractors, and coworkers.
- Represent the company in a professional manner while supporting positive customer relationships.
- Read and interpret company records, field notes, construction drawings, and operational instructions.
Vehicle & Equipment Care
- Operate company vehicles safely and responsibly.
- Maintain clean, organized, and properly stocked vehicles.
- Ensure materials and equipment are safely stored and transported.
- Follow company procedures for damaged materials and waste disposal.
Qualifications:
Required Education
- High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
Required Skills & Experience
- Basic math and computer proficiency.
- Ability to work safely in outdoor and industrial environments.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn natural gas operations.
Licenses & Certifications
- Valid Driver’s License required.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to work shift schedules as required.
- DOT-covered position subject to pre-employment, random, post-accident, and other U.S. Department of Transportation mandated drug and alcohol testing.
- Ability to perform physical work in varying weather and field conditions.
