Harborview Medical Center’s Patient Safety/Quality Improvement department has an outstanding opportunity for a Patient Safety Program Manager.

WORK SCHEDULE

  • 100% FTE
  • Days
  • Must be onsite one day per week and as business needs dictate.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

The Patient Safety Program Manager manages the adverse event (AE) reporting system and the Patient Safety Recognition Program events at Harborview Medical Center. The AE reporting system is a fundamental element of the Harborview Patient Safety Program allowing front line providers to alert the patient safety, quality, risk management, and administrative and medical leadership of possible harm or risk of harm to patients.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serving as a primary triage and reviewer of AE events and safety risks within Harborview Medical Center. 
  • Providing reports to key quality and safety committee regarding specific cases and general trends, follow up and loop closure.
  • Facilitating the multidisciplinary process to evaluate patient safety events.
  • Supporting the training of staff, faculty and adminstration on the best use of the AE reporting system.
  • Providing administrative oversight of the AE reporting system to ensure optimal functioning and use of the system.
  • Participating in event investigations using the principles of Just Culture.
  • Working collaboratively with PS, QI, and operational leaders within HMC and across UW Medicine entities to align patient safety proceses and create a strong culture of safety across all clinical areas.
  • Oversee the ongoing recognition of individual staff and providers and larger teams for behavior that exemplifies leading PS behaviors.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing or equivalent education and experience with four (4) years of recent clinical experience in a hosptial setting, to include at least one (1) year in a leadership role. 
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in a clear and concise maner is imperative. 
  • Must possess strong problem solving and interpersonal skils. 
  • Must be able to work both independently as well as on a collaborative basis within all levels of the organizaiton, including with physicians, employees, and management staff.
  • Must maintain confidentiality and observe all appropriate UW Medicine data security / priviledge standards.
  • Demonstrate high level of analytical and documentaion skills (process analysis, policy development, use of Microsoft suite of products)
  • Prefer familiarity with electronic health record (Epic)

Compensation, Benefits and Position Details

$108,000.00 annual
