The Pratt & Whitney Ceramic Matrix Composites Enterprise is looking for a Project Engineering  Chief to help support the development of ceramic matrix composite materials and the transition from research and development to low rate initial production.

What You Will Do:

Technical Leadership:

  • Partner with organizations across Pratt & Whitney to deliver Ceramic Matrix Composite Hot-section components for future military and commercial platforms (Engineering, Operations, Quality, Industrial)

  • Develop and implement processes and procedures to enable rapid development and improvement of part manufacturing and material development leveraging existing P&W processes where applicable and revision of existing /creation of new processes as needed.

  • Respond in an urgent manner to management requests to resolve technical problems or issues during design, development, and testing of CMCs, supplier interventions, and other special projects undefined.

  • Collaborate with CIPT’s on major system rig and component development rigs to ensure broad and shared knowledge base is maintained.

  • Integration of module activities, adherence to part level requirements, & technical execution within the CIPTs.

  • As part of the CMC  Enterprise Leadership team the project manager will lead and support cross-discipline integration of key technical issues and drive problem resolution with CIPT, SIPT, IPMT, and internal/external customers.

  • Work with CIPT’s and IPT’s to ensure that safety issues are identified, quantified and appropriately communicated and that SRA’s and necessary corrective actions are working and tracked.

  • Build a collaborative work environment by pulling in discipline Chiefs, Fellows and other Supervisors / Technical Leaders.

  • RLPM Requirement Flowdown and Program Execution (previously IPD) adherence & completion of discipline work for the CIPT.

  • Define the scope, technical approach & EKS task selection & sequence required to execute the job ticket.

  • Decision making in support of RLPM / EKS execution.

  • Approval of completed work packages at the conclusion of each project phase.

  • Chairing/Co-Chairing reviews as project focal and approver of Product Design, System Demonstration, & Major System Rig processes.

  • Ensure traceable requirement linkage for product validation approach during the project planning phase.

  • Improve the focus on risk management, process robustness, and safety culture.

  • Foster cross-disciplinary collaboration and critical thinking.

Technical Mentoring:

  • Provide mentorship and technical leadership to engineering team members, ensuring consistent application of Pratt & Whitney development procedures and best practices.  

  • Guide engineers in effective execution of design, verification, and risk‑management activities, cultivating a strong culture of compliance, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.

  • Mentor engineers and build global technical capabilities.

  • Promote a culture of learning, growth, & innovation.

  • Develop project engineer/IPTL technical competencies across the CMC teams, with a focus on development, validation, schedule accountability, and industrial planning and skills.

Process & Discipline Health

  • Participate in/partner with the CMC Projects manager in creation and management of yearly operational and capital budget.

  • Utilize CORE philosophy to identify opportunities to improve tools, methods and processes as challenges are encountered in CMC implementation and drive solutions.

  • Ensure proper use of tools, processes, and methods within design space.

  • Advancing discipline health and continuous improvement thru EKS / WAVE / SI projects.

  • Ensure productivity gains & support discipline health improvements.

  • Travel is required (up to 25%) for visits to multiple HSE sites, customers or supplier facilities.

What You Will Learn:

  • You will gain product knowledge related new technology insertion Commercial & military products and gain experience managing and guiding a Project Engineering team to meet customer deliverables.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering with 12 years of engineering experience or 10 years of experience with an advanced degree.

  • U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Experience with Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) and demonstrated leadership in the following areas:

  • Design & development processes for Hot Section parts, including the procurement of development hardware in support of major design/redesign tasks

  • Creating and submitting proposals, including quotes and Basis-of-Estimates; And/or Budgeting & scheduling process, using SAP and EVMS to monitor and report on task status as a Control Account Manager

  • Manufacturing and quality control processes associated with Hot Section hardware, including the technologies used in hardware fabrication

  • Assembly, test, and validation processes, including instrumentation and test stand support, throughout the full timeframe of an Engine Development Plan

The salary range for this role is 157,200 USD - 298,800 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
