Role summary:The Staff Data Scientist will leverage advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI to deliver actionable insights that drive strategic business decisions. This role leads end-to-end model development, validation, deployment, and scalable AI/ML solutions within complex data ecosystems. Working cross-functionally, they translate business challenges into data-driven strategies while ensuring operational impact. As a people leader, they are responsible for building, coaching, and developing a high-performing team of data scientists. They provide technical thought leadership, champion the adoption of emerging AI capabilities, and drive innovation through scalable, intelligent solutions across the organization.
About the team:
The Marketplace Payments & Financial Services team enhances the Marketplace ecosystem by enabling reliable seller payouts, driving monetization, and expanding financial products while managing financial and compliance risks. The Data Science function develops advanced models and AI/ML capabilities to strengthen the intelligence layer within Payments & Financial Services. Operating in a fast-paced, high-impact environment, the team collaborates to deliver data-driven solutions that support business goals and accelerate marketplace success. Members leverage expertise in predictive analytics, machine learning, and data visualization to create scalable, effective financial services that drive innovation and growth.
What you'll do:
- Lead the development of scalable AI and data science solutions for a global Marketplace Payments platform across current and future marketplaces.
- Define the technical vision, roadmap, and reusable modeling frameworks for Payments & Financial Services.
- Partner with Product, Engineering, Operations, and Business leaders to deliver data-driven solutions that shape product strategy.
- Champion the adoption of emerging AI capabilities to improve decision-making, automation, and customer experience.
- Build scalable data assets, feature engineering, and model monitoring capabilities.
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of data scientists.
- Provide technical thought leadership and drive continuous innovation across the organization.
What you'll bring:
- Proven expertise in machine learning, predictive analytics, advanced statistical modeling, and AI, delivering scalable solutions with measurable business impact.
- Demonstrated technical leadership in defining data science strategy and establishing best practices across the model lifecycle.
- Strong people leadership experience, including building, coaching, and developing high-performing data science teams.
- Expertise in Python, SQL, enterprise data architecture, and scalable AI/ML solutions.
- Ability to influence senior leaders and cross-functional partners, translating complex business challenges into data-driven strategies.
- Experience building globally scalable analytical capabilities and championing the adoption of emerging AI technologies.
