The (USA) Staff, Software Engineer plays a critical role in delivering scalable platform capabilities and driving the full software development lifecycle, including design, coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance. This position leads infrastructure and tooling initiatives to enhance engineering productivity and supports AI/ML integration for intelligent automation. The role requires strong technical leadership, collaboration across teams, and a commitment to engineering excellence through data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement. The engineer ensures alignment with architectural best practices while fostering innovation and delivering high-quality solutions that meet business objectives.
About the team:
The ISMP Spec Engineering team at Walmart Global Tech’s Catalog organization develops the platform powering product taxonomy, specifications, and catalog data management across global marketplaces. The team manages the full engineering lifecycle, including platform architecture, backend services, APIs, UI, and developer tooling, focusing on reliability, scalability, and operational excellence. Collaborating with Product Management, Catalog Operations, and Data Science, the team accelerates product onboarding and enhances catalog quality. They build cloud-native microservices using Java, Spring Boot, React, and Kubernetes, emphasizing scalable APIs, automation, and AI-driven productivity to deliver impactful solutions at Walmart’s scale.
What you'll do:

• Deliver platform capabilities including infrastructure, tooling, and ML frameworks aligned with roadmap milestones and domain priorities.
• Drive full software development lifecycle activities such as coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
• Apply cloud-native architecture principles to ensure scalable, resilient, and agile systems.
• Conduct system design reviews to validate feasibility and alignment with architectural standards.
• Build AI-driven applications integrating ML components and automation features.
• Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote engineering best practices.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate complex problems into actionable technical requirements.
• Utilize data-driven approaches to define success metrics and optimize development processes.
• Continuously improve code quality through review processes and stay current with industry trends.

What you'll bring:

• Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to ensure scalable and resilient systems.
• Strong proficiency in software design patterns, API design, and platform development to deliver high-quality solutions.
• Experience leading full software development lifecycle activities, including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and maintenance.
• Ability to integrate AI/ML components and develop intelligent automation using languages such as Python, JavaScript, and Java.
• Demonstrated skills in problem solving, requirements analysis, and data-driven decision making.
• Effective collaboration and communication skills to engage stakeholders and mentor engineering teams.
• Commitment to engineering excellence through design reviews, prototyping, and continuous improvement.

The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00 - $286,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
