Concept Engineering Lead

We now have an exciting opportunity available for a Concept Engineering Lead to join our Infrastructure Delivery team in Brisbane or Melbourne on a full-time basis. This team is responsible for leading the planning, management and delivery of technical concept and feasibility studies that support APA's major infrastructure and growth opportunities.

Reporting to the Manager Front End Engineering, you will play a key role in leading multidisciplinary engineering studies from concept development through to investment gate approval. You will coordinate technical inputs, manage study deliverables, risks and stakeholder requirements, and ensure robust technical solutions are developed and successfully handed over to delivery teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of engineering concept and feasibility studies, ensuring outcomes are achieved safely, on schedule, within budget, and to required quality standards.

• Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop integrated technical solutions that meet customer requirements, APA standards, and investment gate expectations.

• Drive study governance and gate readiness, ensuring all technical deliverables, assumptions, risks, and recommendations are thoroughly documented and approved.

• Act as the primary technical interface between Engineering, Estimating, Bid Management, and key stakeholders to support commercial decision-making and project development activities.

• Oversee the identification, assessment, and management of technical, safety, environmental, and constructability risks throughout the study lifecycle.

• Lead the technical handover process to delivery teams, ensuring design intent, risks, assumptions, requirements, and key decisions are effectively communicated and transitioned.

Your background

• Demonstrated experience leading complex engineering concept, feasibility, or front-end studies within infrastructure, energy, oil & gas, utilities, resources, or related industries.

• Strong technical leadership capabilities with the ability to manage and coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams across multiple workstreams and stakeholders. and integrating technical artifacts into cohesive study outcomes.

• Proven ability to develop technical solutions, evaluate design options, and provide recommendations that balance technical, commercial, operational, and risk considerations.

• Exceptional stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with experience collaborating across engineering, operations, project development, commercial, regulatory, and customer groups.

• Sound understanding of project development processes, investment gate frameworks, risk management methodologies, and engineering governance requirements.

• Tertiary qualification in Engineering or a related discipline, with professional engineering accreditation and project/study management experience highly regarded.

The Front-End Engineering team leads concept development, feasibility studies and technical definition for APA growth opportunities, partnering across engineering, estimating, bid management and operations to develop robust, investment-ready solutions that enable successful project delivery.

We support the delivery of energy infrastructure projects across Australia by providing expert services across gas transmission and storage, gas powered generation, and power development, - enabling APA to be world class in energy solutions.
