Overview

A Biostatistician conducts statistical analyses and develops programming strategies for various research studies. Responsibilities include analyzing research issues, developing methodologies, and preparing computer programs. This role involves drafting statistical analysis sections for manuscripts, conducting sample size and power calculations, and participating in the preparation of journal-quality tables and figures. Biostatisticians collaborate with clinical investigators and research teams to ensure high-quality analytical outcomes, perform data management tasks, and prepare reports summarizing research findings. Their work supports outcomes in health services, clinical trials, and epidemiological studies, focusing on data accuracy, methodology compliance, and effective communication of results to diverse audiences. In this role, the Biostatistician will provide technical support to community-led research projects as part of the NIH-funded CLP Initiative. They will also provide analytic support to ongoing Equity Research and Innovation Center (ERIC) research projects.

Required Skills and Abilities

1. Excellent written and oral communication skills to effectively present statistical aspects to both technical and non-technical audiences.
2. Proficiency in biostatistics, including constructing multivariable models and applying appropriate statistical methods to research questions.
3. Demonstrated ability with statistical programming languages such as SAS, R, or Python.
4. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with research teams, ensuring thorough data analysis and project completion.
5. Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects concurrently, ensuring timely and accurate results.



Preferred Skills and Abilities

1. Master's or PhD in Biostatistics, Statistics, Bioinformatics, or a related field with several years of experience in data analysis and statistical programming.
2. Proven experience with healthcare or clinical research data, including managing large datasets and applying relevant statistical techniques.
3. Professional certification in SAS programming or equivalent advanced statistical programming certification.
4. Experience in conducting genomic or bioinformatics analyses and developing computational tools for data standardization.
5. Strong background in statistical methodologic areas such as Survival Analysis, Clinical Trial Design, and Bayesian models.

Principal Responsibilities

1. Evaluates and analyzes data using accepted statistical and biostatistical techniques. 2. Investigates, analyzes, and evaluates complex statistical and programming problems. Determines proper methodology, testing standards, and evaluation processes for research projects. Recommends and develops statistical approaches for use in analyses. 3. Prepares analysis plans and writes detailed specifications for analysis files, consistency checks, tables, and figures; communicates with clients regarding statistical analysis issues. 4. In collaboration with research investigators, contributes to the design of research studies, develops analytical plans, conducts statistical analysis and interpret the results. 5. Ensures the integrity of databases used in analyses through development of essential data cleaning and checks, and data back-ups. 6. Plans statistical programming activities and schedules to provide investigators with time frames for projects. 7. Recommends and develops statistical approaches by testing and prototyping. 8. Organizes and creates documents and tables related to datasets; communicates with data sources about data accuracy and data dictionary. 9. May perform other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience Master’s Degree in Biostatistics, Statistics or relevant field. Two years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
