Job Summary

This position is responsible for manufacturing cutting edge recombinant protein research products in Molecular Cellular Biology (MCBio) group at BioLegend. The Recombinant Manufacturing Biochemist will be involved in different stages of production of various recombinant protein products, which includes recombinant protein expression and purification.

The duties include preparing buffer solutions and cell culture media, performing bacterial cultures, affinity purification of recombinant proteins, and performing DNA isolation according to standard operating procedures. Independence in production of high complex bacterial projects, understanding and troubleshoot technical issues, internal audit, and document revision training. Additionally, biochemist will be responsible in project support which may include transferring the products to other groups for testing, preparing product/project related documentation, and maintaining the inventory and record for recombinant protein products.

Essential Functions

  • Prepare various buffers for experiments, including cell culture media.
  • Perform transformation and culture of bacterial cells (1-50 liters)
  • Process the culture supernatant/cell pellet/inclusion body, followed by extensive processing of the supernatant/cell pellet/inclusion body or diafiltration to extract or refold raw protein bulk.
  • Support purifying recombinant protein by means of affinity tag
  • Support technical training for MFG procedures
  • Support activities related to audit readiness, CAPA and NC investigation
  • Monitor processing by SDS-PAGE for varied protein production stages
  • Perform bulk processing (concentration, dilution, buffer change), purity analysis and endotoxin removal
  • Support inventory management of raw material and plasmid constructs for protein production
  • Assist in transferring products across different departments for QC or other inventory-related activities.
  • Maintain batch records and other documentations that are essential to be in compliance with ISO13485:2016
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and manage supplies.
  • Other projects or responsibilities may be required.

Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Life Science or related area
  • 6-months of hands-on experience with bacterial and/or mammalian cell culture

Preferred Qualifications – Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Life Science or related area with at least 1 year of working experience in related biotech protein or antibody product manufacturing.
  • Extensive experience in suspended E. coli culture.
  • Experienced in purification and formulation of recombinant protein or antibody under ISO/GMP environment.
  • Capable of working cross-functionally with other departments and coordinating projects internally and externally
  • Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented, organized and work well in small work groups
  • Able to perform basic computer operations such as MS Office and Outlook and other computer-based software
  • Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented, organized, and work well in small work groups

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a laboratory environment with occasional data entry on a computer. Occasional exposure to a warehouse environment.

The base salary range for this full-time position is $20.00 - 27.00/hr. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for a new hire in this position. The base pay actually offered to the successful candidate will take into account internal equity, work location, and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process. 

Please note that base pay is only one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This range allows for the successful candidate to have an opportunity to progress within the position and develop at our company. This base pay range does not take into account bonuses, equity, or other benefits which may be applicable and are dependent on the level and position offered.
