BASIC FUNCTION
 

Based at our production and quarry site, the Mineral Technology and Laboratory Technician plays a key role in supporting both laboratory analysis and quarry operations.

This hybrid position combines advanced mineral testing with field-based activities, including sampling, surveying, and operational support. The role ensures accurate analytical data, consistent raw material quality, and reliable field information to support safe, efficient extraction and plant feed management.

The position operates in a mineral transformation environment serving industrial, food-grade, and pharmaceutical applications, requiring strong technical versatility and close collaboration across laboratory, quarry, and production teams.
 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Laboratory Analysis and Quality Control

  • Perform routine and advanced laboratory analyses on mineral products, including particle size distribution, physical and chemical characterization
  • Operate, maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation
  • Ensure accurate and traceable recording of test results in laboratory systems
  • Maintain laboratory organization, cleanliness, and safety standards
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, including method development and process optimization

Mineral Technology and Quarry Support

  • Collect and document mineral samples from quarry operations, including geological sections and production areas
  • Support mineral quality evaluation and alignment between quarry extraction and plant processing
  • Assist in identifying material variations and contributing to raw material consistency initiatives
  • Provide technical support to quarry and production teams as needed

Surveying, Drone Operations and Data Collection

  • Perform field surveys using GPS equipment to support quarry layout, production tracking, and validation activities
  • Operate drones to capture site imagery, stockpile measurements, and volumetric data
  • Process and organize survey and drone data into operational maps and reports using approved tools
  • Maintain equipment and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and internal procedures

Quarry Operations and Blasting Support

  • Assist with drill and blast layout verification, measurements, and documentation
  • Collect and analyse samples related to blasting activities
  • Monitor quarry conditions and report any deviations or operational concerns
  • Support safe execution of quarry activities in coordination with the Quarry Manager

Operational and Systems Support

  • Provide back-up support for scalehouse operations, including weighing transactions and basic coordination with drivers
  • Perform system entries related to production, sampling, and inventory in enterprise systems
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of operational data

Health, Safety, Environment and Quality

  • Perform all work in compliance with health and safety, environmental, and quality standards
  • Contribute to a strong safety culture across both laboratory and quarry environments
  • Ensure adherence to standards supporting industrial, food-grade, and pharmaceutical production
     

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • College diploma or university degree in Science, Chemistry, Engineering, Mining Technology, Mineral Technology, or a related field
  • Additional training in surveying, geographic information systems, or drone operations is considered an asset

Experience

  • 2 to 5 years of experience in laboratory analysis, mineral processing, quarry operations, or a related technical environment
  • Experience with field data collection, GPS systems, or drone operations is an asset
  • Exposure to mineral quality control and industrial production environments preferred

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong technical aptitude in laboratory testing and data analysis
  • Ability to operate and interpret surveying and data collection tools
  • Proficiency with standard computer applications; experience with enterprise systems is an asset
  • Strong organisation, documentation, and attention to detail
  • Ability to analyse data and communicate findings clearly
  • Comfortable working both indoors (laboratory) and outdoors (quarry environment)
  • Team-oriented with the ability to collaborate across multiple functions

Working Conditions

  • Combination of laboratory and outdoor quarry environments
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions, dust, noise, and uneven terrain
  • Regular physical activity, including walking, climbing, and fieldwork

Other Requirements

  • Valid driver’s licence
  • Drone pilot certification is an asset or willingness to obtain after hire
