Azure Platform Engineer
Department: Internal Technology
Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time
Location: Oxford, UK
Reporting To: Sam Smith
Description
Key Responsibilities
-
Engineering Excellence: Apply a proactive, detail-focused engineering mindset to design and deliver robust Azure solutions. Set a high bar for quality, consistency, and operational excellence across the platform.
-
Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD: Design, implement and maintain Azure infrastructure using Terraform/OpenTofu and CI/CD pipelines via Azure DevOps. Ensure infrastructure is version-controlled, auditable, and reproducible.
-
Integration and Enterprise Service Bus: Sharing ownership with the Head of Architecture and Engineering, develop Aurora's Enterprise Service Bus and broader integration infrastructure, leveraging Azure Logic Apps, Function Apps, Service Bus and related iPaaS services to support reliable, scalable integrations across Aurora's application estate.
-
Networking and Landing Zone: Design, configure and maintain Azure networking components including Virtual Networks, Network Security Groups, Private Endpoints, DNS, and hybrid connectivity. Ensure network architecture is secure, performant, and aligned to the Landing Zone design.
-
Observability and Operations: Implement and maintain monitoring, alerting, and logging solutions using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Sentinel. Drive a culture of observability, ensuring platform health, performance, and security events are proactively tracked and acted upon.
-
Governance and Documentation: Actively develop and maintain runbooks, SOPs, and architecture documentation. Contribute to governance practices and ensure our Azure environment is well-understood, consistently managed, and aligned to security and compliance requirements.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work directly with Internal Technology colleagues, the Architecture and Engineering function, and business stakeholders to understand requirements, shape solutions, and ensure Azure platform capabilities keep pace with Aurora's growth.

- Hands-on experience with integration infrastructure deployed to Azure including the following services or equivalent: Azure Logic Apps, Function Apps, Service Bus, Azure SQL and Key Vaults.
- Strong Azure networking knowledge — VNets, NSGs, Private Endpoints, DNS, routing, and hybrid connectivity — with experience implementing or contributing to a Landing Zone design.
- Naturally inquisitive with a strong desire to learn, evaluate, and adopt emerging technologies and engineering practices where they provide measurable benefit to the organisation.
- Experience configuring and operating Azure Monitor, Log Analytics workspaces, and Sentinel for platform observability and security monitoring.

- A strong security and governance mindset, with experience applying RBAC, Azure Policy, and governance guardrails in a cloud environment.
- Demonstrable experience creating and maintaining technical documentation, runbooks, and SOPs.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with both technical colleagues and non-technical stakeholders.
- Excellent time management, organisational skills, and attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver to deadlines with minimal supervision.
- A passion for technology and a genuine interest in building cloud platforms that enable a high-performing organisation.
- Azure certifications relevant to this role, such as AZ-104 (Azure Administrator), AZ-400 (DevOps Engineer), or AZ-305 (Azure Solutions Architect).
- Familiarity with containerisation, Azure Container Apps, or Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) for workload management.
- Experience working with any of Aurora's core Tier 1 systems: Microsoft Dynamics 365 F&O, Salesforce, or SAP SuccessFactors, particularly in the context of Azure-hosted integrations.
- Experience working within a fast-paced, scaling organisation where the platform must evolve rapidly to meet growing business demands.
