Description

 The Director of Individual Giving leads the organization’s individual giving strategy and is responsible for growing revenue from individual donors through annual giving, major and planned giving, events, and other fundraising initiatives. Working in collaboration with colleagues in Development and Communications, this position is responsible for implementing fundraising strategies, including via mail and web, that renew and upgrade existing donors; building relationships with mid-level and major donors via year-round stewardship and one-to-one communication; and developing new initiatives to expand giving via planned gifts, DAF gifts, monthly gifts, and events. The ideal candidate will be a driven, creative, and relational fundraiser with deep understanding and experience developing and growing individual fundraising programs.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and oversee strategies and activities related to our annual fundraising campaign , providing leadership and project management for appeal development, donor stewardship, and revenue growth
  • Manage and serve as the primary relationship manager for a portfolio of 50-75 mid-level and major donors and prospects. Develop and implement cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and renewal strategies in partnership with the VP of Development and organizational leadership, as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with Development, Communications, Finance, and program teams to coordinate donor stewardship, fundraising campaigns, reporting, and donor communication that support organizational fundraising goals.
  • Lead individual donor engagement and revenue strategies for organizational events, to increase individual ticket sales, silent auction revenue, and event-based donations, enhance donor cultivation and experience, and utilize post-event stewardship for future giving
  • Plan and execute donor cultivation events in partnership with the VP of Development
  • Design strategies to increase giving via planned gifts, DAFs, and recurring/monthly gifts
  • Develop and manage individual giving revenue and expenses budgets
  • Meet virtually and in-person with donors and prospects. Approximately 20% of work time will be spent in direct donor interactions. This role requires local and occasional national travel, as well as periodic evening and weekend work based on donor and prospect availability and to support donor meetings and fundraising events. 
  • Recommend and implement individual giving strategies and fundraising priorities, elevating significant strategic decisions to the VP of Development as appropriate. 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or needed to move forward the individual giving program

Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills:

  • 7+ years of demonstrated experience developing and  implementing fundraising strategies across multiple individual giving channels, including direct solicitation, annual giving, digital fundraising, direct mail, and donor engagement. 
  • Track record of professional growth and increasing responsibility in the field of development for nonprofit organizations 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects while remaining organized and adaptable and ensuring products/outputs are high-quality, effective, and reflective of the organization’s mission
  • Excellent communications abilities, including the ability to build relationships and  effectively communicate with donors, both in writing and verbally, about complex policy material and how giving matters
  • Experience working collaboratively across teams and departments to meet shared goals
  • Willingness to try new approaches, challenge conventional norms, and fail forward
  • Working knowledge of charitable giving tax laws and other fundraising standards
  • Experience using CRM platforms for moves management - Salesforce Nonprofit Success Pack and EveryAction are a plus 
  • Ability to handle confidential donor and financial information with discretion.
  • Supervise interns or project staff as assigned, including providing recruitment, onboarding, coaching, and feedback to support successful completion of assigned work. 
  • Applies  an equity lens and analysis into work product by addressing structural implications and disproportionate impacts of policies, activities, and decisions on race, class, gender and other group identities within the context of job responsibilities and projects
  • Engages in opportunities to continue learning and skill-building on issues related to equity
  • Proactively addresses and resolves conflicts across differences; and acknowledges and reduces the emotional labor placed upon people of color and others outside of the dominant culture

Classification

The National Partnership recognizes a staff bargaining unit, National Partnership United, affiliated with the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union/IFPTE Local 70, a union for non-profit workers. This is an exempt position NOT included in the NP United bargaining unit.


Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this role is $134,569-$160,869 with the exact salary determined by years of relevant experience, in alignment with NPWF’s compensation setting criteria.

Employment and Workplace Details

This position is a full-time DC-based position with a hybrid schedule that requires a minimum of four days of in-office work each month, with additional in-office and in-person days determined by your role and job responsibilities. For this position, the in-office requirement is two to four days per week, with the specific schedule set by discussion between the employee and their supervisor based on departmental needs and job responsibilities. This role requires local and occasional national travel, as well as periodic evening and weekend work based on donor and prospect availability and to support donor meetings and fundraising events. 

This weekly in-office expectation is a condition of the role and applies in addition to, not in place of, the organization-wide monthly minimum requirement. A six month probationary period applies at the start of employment.
