Reporting directly to the Dean, the Associate Dean provides operational leadership for the A.R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business—an AACSB-accredited business school comprising undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs, three Centers, and a Banking Academy that serve over 1,800 students.
Specifically, the Associate Dean leads academic operations, accreditation, and continuous improvement initiatives while working collaboratively with division chairs, program directors, faculty, and staff to ensure that strategic priorities are effectively implemented and sustained over time. The successful candidate will possess exceptional organizational skills, sound judgment, and a demonstrated ability to build organizational systems, coordinate complex multi-stakeholder initiatives, and consistently deliver measurable results in an academic environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Lead, coordinate, and oversee the implementation of School initiatives to ensure timely execution and alignment with School priorities.
- Develop organizational systems and operational processes that improve efficiency, accountability, communication, and long-term organizational effectiveness.
- Coordinate multiple concurrent projects involving faculty, staff, administrators, and external stakeholders while maintaining accountability and established timelines.
- Proactively identify and remove implementation barriers while developing practical solutions to emerging operational challenges.
Accreditation Leadership
- Lead and coordinate all AACSB accreditation activities, including assurance of learning and preparation for Continuous Improvement Reviews.
- Interpret accreditation standards and translate them into sustainable organizational systems and continuous improvement practices.
- Develop, maintain, and continuously improve accreditation dashboards, reporting systems, and accountability mechanisms.
- Monitor progress toward accreditation milestones, evaluate organizational performance, and ensure continued compliance and continuous improvement.
Organizational Leadership
- Provide guidance related to accreditation, assessment, academic policies, and operational processes to support consistent implementation across the School.
- Build productive working relationships among division chairs, program directors, faculty, staff, students, university leadership, and external stakeholders.
- Foster a collaborative culture emphasizing shared responsibility, accountability, continuous improvement, and service excellence.
- Assist with faculty recruitment, development, and evaluation processes while supporting other administrative responsibilities assigned by the Dean.
Minimum Requirements
Education
- Terminal degree in Business Administration or a closely related discipline appropriate for a tenured appointment within one of the academic programs offered by the Sanchez School.
Experience
- Demonstrated experience leading or supporting accreditation, assessment, institutional effectiveness, continuous improvement, academic administration, or closely related academic quality processes.
- Record of scholarly achievement consistent with appointment as a tenured associate professor or professor within the Sanchez School.
Preferred Qualifications
Successful track record of:
- Implementing complex organizational initiatives involving multiple stakeholders, competing priorities, and firm deadlines.
- Developing organizational systems, workflows, or accountability processes that improved operational effectiveness or organizational performance.
- Leading AACSB accreditation activities, including assurance of learning, strategic planning, Continuous Improvement Reviews, or related accreditation processes.
- Serving as an associate dean, assistant dean, department chair, program director, or in a comparable academic leadership role.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- AACSB accreditation standards and continuous improvement processes.
- Word processing, spreadsheet, and data management applications.
- Policies and procedures of the Texas A&M University System or the ability to acquire such knowledge quickly.
Ability to:
- Build organizational systems that improve efficiency, accountability, and long-term operational effectiveness.
- Implement School priorities by working collaboratively with university colleagues and external stakeholders.
- Solve complex organizational challenges by exercising sound professional judgment and communicating effectively.
