Description

Responsible for planning, supervising and participating in a small crew engaged in the skilled reconstruction of municipal stormwater infrastructure. Work involves supervising the reconstruction of catch basins, drainage manholes and catch basin laterals in accordance with plans and specifications.  Work is performed with considerable independence in accordance with accepted trade practices adapted to municipal requirements under the general direction of a supervisor of higher grade who reviews work through inspections for conformance to established departmental standards. Supervision is exercised over a small crew of workers.
  • Supervises and participates in the work of a small crew engaged in maintaining, constructing, and repairing City stormwater infrastructure.
  • Ability to understand and interpret work instructions that may be oral or written and are accompanied by drawings and sketches.
  • Rebuilding and adjusting the masonry and castings of present structures as required to conform with MA DOT regulations 
  • Audits all completed jobs in accordance with plans and specifications.
  • Plans and assigns work crews to daily jobs.
  • Orders supplies and parts as necessary.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, equipment, and techniques of the trade.
  • Considerable knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions connected with the construction and maintenance of stormwater infrastructure and roadways.
  • Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, materials and processes necessary to construct, finish and inspect catch basins, drainage manholes and stormwater laterals.
  • Ability work in accordance with the established lines and grades shown on the plans or by the engineer
  • Ability to locate, diagnose, and correct needed repairs on equipment.
  • Ability to supervise the work of a small crew.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Skill in the use and care of tools, equipment and materials of the trade. 
  • High school diploma or equivalent, including or supplemented by technical courses relating to the trade.
  • Minimum of five years of experience as a skilled maintenance person.
  • Experience with stormwater infrastructure repairs preferred.
  • Must have or obtain a Workzone Safety Certification within 6 months
