The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the cleaning, packaging, sterilizing, and storing of supplies, instruments and equipment.
Responsibilities
- Cleans each item according to manufacturer's instruction.
- Inspects and lubricates items as required.
- Ensures that each item is in good working condition; i.e., alignment, grasp.
- Sorts and arranges items into proper trays according to established policy and procedure.
- Wraps trays and individual items according to established policy and procedure.
- Accurately labels each item with name and expiration date.
- Positions items correctly in autoclave.
- Selects the proper cycle, being sure to seek assistance if instructions are not clear.
- Checks indicators for proper function.
- Performs biological and pressure monitoring tests required on all sterilizers according to established policy and procedure.
- Changes and dates autoclave recording graphs.
- Cleans sterilizers according to established policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma is required
- Previous experience in processing surgical instruments is required or demonstrated ability in sterilization techniques with a thorough knowledge of instrumentation, care and handling.
