We’re looking for a Bitumen Sprayer Operator to join our surfacing team in Christchurch. In this role, you’ll operate our sprayer, support spray sealing works, and help deliver safer, high-quality roads for the communities we work in.
Mō te tūranga | About the role
This is a hands-on role for someone who knows their way around bitumen operations and takes real pride in getting the job done right. You’ll be out on site, working closely with the crew to deliver spray sealing activities safely, on time and to a high standard. Good Work matters here, and in this role, you’ll play a big part in keeping plant running well, work moving, and safety front and centre every day.
This is a permanent full-time role with a minimum of 40 hours per week, your hours will usually be worked between Monday to Friday, however you may be required to work weekends as and when required. The hourly wage ranges from NZ$32.00 to NZ$42.00 depending on experience. This role is based in Christchurch, and you will have the opportunity to travel all over the South Island.
Ngā kawenga matua | Key responsibilities
- Operate the bitumen sprayer to deliver spray sealing work safely, efficiently and to quality standards.
- Complete pre-start checks and make sure plant is inducted, fit for purpose and ready for the day’s work.
- Load, unload and move equipment to and from worksites, while handling bituminous products and supporting aggregate spreading and rolling activities.
- Take ownership of the day-to-day running of the sprayer and follow work plans set by the Supervisor.
- Put safety first by speaking up, following site controls, reporting incidents and helping the team find better, safer ways of working.
- Assist with general labouring duties as and when required.

- Flexibility to work away from home and on shift as required.
- A full clean Class 4 drivers licence, WTR and Dangerous Goods endorsement.
- Previous bitumen and emulsion handling experience.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- The ability to problem solve in a fast-paced team environment.
- A strong safety mindset, good judgement and the confidence to push pause when something’s not right.
- A reliable, team-focused approach with a practical attitude, pride in your work and a willingness to learn and grow.
