Pratt & Whitney’s Hot Section Engineering Support to Operations (HSE ESTO) team is seeking a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join the Turbine Airfoil Casting Team (TACT). In this role, you will play a critical part in ensuring the quality and timely delivery of airfoil castings that are essential to the performance of Pratt & Whitney’s engines. You will lead cross-functional teams, support process improvement initiatives, and mentor team members to enhance technical proficiency.

What You Will Do

  • Develop and implement best practices for defect assessment and “Right-size Analysis” using risk-based decision-making processes.
  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams, including operations, quality, procurement, and engineering subject matter experts (SMEs), to investigate root causes, develop corrective actions, and implement product and process improvements.
  • Address time-sensitive quality issues to support engine and module delivery schedules.
  • Prepare and execute Class II engineering change packages to improve quality, cost, and producibility metrics.
  • Apply Pro-Cert methodology and data-driven decision-making in the Class II engineering change process.
  • Drive continuous improvement in product development cycles and the design of next-generation hardware.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members to develop delegate approvers for turbine airfoils across programs.
  • Present technical content and program status to upper management, program management, and other key stakeholders.
  • Travel up to 10% domestically or internationally, as required.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)
  • 8 years of engineering experience, or an advanced degree with 5 years of engineering experience

  • 2 years of experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance with ASME Y14.5M-1994.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Working proficiency with Teamcenter, SAP, and NX.
  • Experience working in the aerospace industry, particularly in a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous experience with airfoil design or manufacturing.
  • Experience with process improvement initiatives at casting suppliers.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to present technical information to stakeholders.
