Position Purpose

At the Connecticut Joint and Spine Institute within Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, the Preoperative Registered Nurse (RN) in the Pre & PACU provides pre‑operative nursing care for patients preparing for surgical procedures. The RN conducts comprehensive assessments, verifies readiness for anesthesia and surgery, provides education, and supports patients and families throughout the pre‑operative process.

 

What You Will Do

• Complete detailed pre‑operative assessments, including medical history review, medication verification, and evaluation of surgical and anesthesia readiness.
• Provide patient and family education on the surgical process, expectations, and pre-procedure instructions to ensure understanding and readiness.
• Monitor patient status prior to surgery, address concerns, and collaborate with anesthesia and surgical teams for safe, efficient transitions to the operating room.

Minimum Qualifications

Required:

• Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
• Current Connecticut RN license.
• The ideal candidate will have one or more years of Pre Op or Perioperative nursing experience.

Preferred:

• Candidates with two or more years of medical‑surgical, telemetry, or step‑down nursing experience in an Inpatient Acute Setting may be considered for training.
• BLS and ACLS certifications (support available post-hire).
• Ability to practice according to ASPAN (American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nursing) standards.

Position Highlights and Benefits

• Full Time – 36 hours/week – Day Shift
• Monday through Friday, with late call rotations supporting shifts until 4:00 pm.
• No weekends
• 9‑hour shifts with variable start times, typically 5:00 am to 2:30 pm

Compensation and Benefits

• Hourly Staff RN position; pay range: $37.25 – $61.75/hour
  • Pay is based on working RN experience only. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
