Water Feature & Irrigation Design Estimator

Near Castle Cary, Somerset | Full-time, permanent | Competitive salary, based on experience

A specialist business working on landscape irrigation systems and water features is looking for a Design Estimator to join its growing team near Castle Cary.

The order book is strong, and this is a chance to work on varied projects while developing your technical and commercial skills. You’ll help turn project requirements into practical designs and accurate quotations, working with an experienced team and speaking with clients about what they need.

We’re open to people at different stages of their career. You might already have experience in design and estimating, or you may have a relevant technical or trade background and be keen to learn. What matters is that you’re curious, commercially aware and confident enough to pick up the phone, ask questions and follow up.

What you’ll do

• Prepare design layout drawings, calculations and specifications for irrigation and water feature projects.
• Help price work and prepare quotations.
• Gather information to understand project requirements and identify what needs to be allowed for.
• Take part in client meetings and discussions.
• Work with colleagues to develop practical, deliverable solutions.
• Build your knowledge of irrigation systems, water features and project costs.

What we’re looking for

• Experience or a background in construction, plumbing, heating, mechanical or electrical work, or another relevant technical field.
• An interest in learning how irrigation and water feature systems are designed and priced.
• Clear communication skills and the confidence to ask questions and speak with customers.
• A practical, organised approach and the resilience to see tasks through.
• Some experience with quotations, drawings, specifications or small and medium-sized projects would be useful.
• AutoCAD experience is an advantage, but training can be provided.

This could suit a trainee or junior designer, an estimator, or someone from a builders’ merchant, kitchen business, irrigation company or related trade who wants to develop into a more technical and client-facing role.
