GENERAL DESCRIPTION 

The Dietitian delivers patient-centered nutritional care through assessment, diet prescription, counseling, and monitoring. The role ensures patients receive evidence-based nutrition therapy as part of their medical management and collaborates closely with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to optimize clinical outcomes. 

JOB DESCRIPTION 

Main Responsibilities  

  • Implement dietetic and nutrition care services in accordance with service policies, clinical guidelines, accreditation standards, and professional practice requirements. 

  • Conduct comprehensive nutritional assessments and develop individualized nutrition care plans based on medical diagnoses and treatment objectives. 

  • Provide diet counseling and structured education to patients, caregivers, and families to support lifestyle modification and disease management. 

  • Monitor, evaluate, and document patient progress, adjusting nutrition care plans as clinically indicated. 

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams (Doctors, Nurses, Allied Health Professionals) to coordinate integrated, patient-centered nutrition care. 

  • Plan, review, and evaluate therapeutic and regular menus to ensure nutritional adequacy and adherence to clinical prescriptions. 

  • Observe and monitor food preparation, portioning, and service practices to ensure quality, hygiene, and accuracy of therapeutic diets. 

  • Conduct briefings and educational updates for Food Services and Nursing personnel on diet protocols, therapeutic diets, and special menu requirements. 

  • Collect, compile, and analyze clinical statistics and service data to support audits, reporting, and performance monitoring. 

  • Participate in the review of service procedures, protocols, and quality improvement initiatives to strengthen service delivery. 

  • Check and report on outsourced or contracted food services (where applicable) for adherence to food safety, hygiene, and quality requirements. Highlight any non-conformance to the Senior Dietitian (where applicable) or Head of Dietetics & Food Services. 

  • Execute operational workflows efficiently to ensure smooth delivery of clinical, food service, and community nutrition activities. 

  • Participate in community nutrition, wellness, or health promotion activities organized by the hospital. 

  • Liaise with suppliers and vendors (where applicable) regarding nutritional products, ensuring alignment with service needs and quality expectations. 

  • Implement assigned service initiatives and projects to enhance service quality, operational efficiency, and patient outcomes. 

 

Other Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Perform any other responsibilities assigned by immediate superior or hospital management. 

JOB  REQUIREMENT 

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics or Postgraduate Diploma in Dietetics (recognized by relevant authority).  

  • Registered with Malaysian Allied Health Professions Council (MAHPC).  

 

Knowledge and Experiences: 

  • Preferably 1–3 years of clinical dietetics experience (fresh graduates may be considered). 

  • Familiarity with hospital dietetics workflow, food service operations, and clinical documentation.  

  • Understand food safety, quality standards, and therapeutic diet principles. 

Skills & Competencies: 

 Special skills required 

  • Strong clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice skills, including comprehensive nutrition assessment, individualized care planning, and patient progress monitoring. 

  • Effective communication, counselling, presentation, and public speaking skills, with the ability to deliver tailored diet advice, patient and caregiver education, staff briefings, and community or health promotion programs. 

  • Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary healthcare teams. 

  • Strong organizational, workload management, documentation, and reporting skills, including competent use of hospital information systems. 

  • Basic competency in quality improvement and clinical audit activities. 

  • Good observational skills in monitoring food preparation, portioning, and adherence to therapeutic diet requirements.
