Job Summary
The Maintenance Technician – Electrical is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical, electronic, and automated equipment to support safe, efficient, and reliable operations. This hourly position focuses on electrical systems, controls, PLCs, variable frequency drives (VFDs), sensors, and related automation equipment. The technician plays a key role in minimizing downtime, improving equipment reliability, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on electrical and control systems
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical equipment, PLC systems, motor controls, drives, sensors, relays, contactors, and other automation components
- Diagnose faults in electrical circuits, control panels, programmable controllers, and production equipment
- Install, test, calibrate, and maintain sensors, switches, motors, drives, and instrumentation devices
- Support troubleshooting and minor programming changes for PLC-controlled equipment and automated systems
- Work with variable frequency drives (VFDs), HMIs, servo systems, and other industrial control technologies
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, ladder logic, technical manuals, and work orders
- Perform panel wiring, component replacement, and electrical modifications as needed
- Assist with equipment startup, commissioning, upgrades, and continuous improvement projects
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, troubleshooting findings, and parts usage in maintenance systems
- Ensure compliance with electrical codes, plant safety standards, lockout/tagout procedures, and environmental requirements
- Collaborate with operations, engineering, and maintenance teams to identify and resolve equipment issues
- Support root cause analysis and recommend solutions to improve equipment uptime and reliability
Required Qualifications
- Diploma Electrical/Electronics/Mechatronics
- Technical degree, certificate, apprenticeship, or vocational training in electrical maintenance, industrial electricity, automation, or related field preferred
- Experience in industrial maintenance, electrical troubleshooting, or manufacturing support
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, motor controls, PLCs, drives, and industrial sensors
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documents
- Basic understanding of PLC logic and ability to troubleshoot automated systems
- Familiarity with electrical test equipment such as multimeters, clamp meters, and diagnostic tools
- Ability to safely work on industrial electrical equipment and follow lockout/tagout procedures
- Basic computer skills for work orders, documentation, and maintenance systems
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of industrial electrical maintenance experience
- Experience troubleshooting PLC platforms such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, GE, Mitsubishi, or similar
- Familiarity with HMI systems, VFDs, servo drives, and automated production equipment
- Knowledge of industrial networking and communication protocols is a plus
- Experience with programming, editing, or troubleshooting PLC ladder logic
- Understanding of sensors including photoelectric, proximity, limit, pressure, and temperature devices
- Knowledge of robotics, motion control, or instrumentation is a plus
- Experience using CMMS or other maintenance management systems
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, kneel, and work in industrial environments
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation
- Ability to work around electrical systems, machinery, noise, heat, and moving equipment
- Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, or in varying plant conditions as required
Work Schedule
- Hourly, non-exempt position
- Overtime, weekends, holidays, and on-call support may be required based on operational needs
