Description

At Kidney Specialty Center, we are committed to providing expert, compassionate kidney care while making every patient feel welcomed, supported, and cared for. Our team works closely together to ensure patients receive coordinated, timely, and personalized care throughout their kidney health journey.

We’re looking for an experienced Medical Assistant to support our nephrology practice with patient care, clinical coordination, and daily office operations. If you’re organized, attentive to detail, and passionate about creating a positive patient experience, we’d love to hear from you.

What You’ll Do

  • Welcome patients, prepare them for their visits, obtain and document vital signs, and update relevant medical information in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Support nephrologists during patient consultations and help ensure an efficient flow throughout the clinic.
  • Review upcoming appointments to ensure necessary laboratory results, imaging studies, ultrasounds, hospital records, and other requested clinical information are available for the provider before the patient is evaluated.
  • Coordinate laboratory orders, diagnostic testing, ultrasounds, imaging, and follow-up appointments as directed by the physician.
  • Process medication refill requests and medication prior authorizations according to provider protocols.
  • Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits and assist with referrals and authorization requirements.
  • Coordinate incoming and outgoing referrals and communicate with primary care physicians, specialists, hospitals, dialysis facilities, and other healthcare providers to obtain or transmit necessary clinical information and consultation reports.
  • Schedule patient appointments, follow-up visits, laboratory testing, imaging, and other services ordered by the physician.
  • Maintain accurate and complete patient information and documentation within the EMR.
  • Respond to patient calls and messages, communicate physician instructions when appropriate, and route clinical concerns to the provider.
  • Assist with front desk and checkout responsibilities as needed, including scheduling follow-up care and ensuring patients understand their next steps before leaving the office.
  • Help identify outstanding orders, results, referrals, or follow-up needs and communicate them to the appropriate team member or provider.
  • Maintain an organized clinical environment and follow HIPAA, infection control, safety, and patient privacy requirements.
  • Collaborate with physicians and team members to provide a smooth, compassionate, and coordinated patient experience.

Requirements

What You’ll Bring

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant program or equivalent relevant experience.
  • At least two years of experience in a physician practice, medical office, or outpatient setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and familiarity with chronic conditions such as chronic kidney disease, hypertension, and diabetes.
  • Experience working with EMR systems. Familiarity with insurance eligibility, referrals, prior authorizations, and physician-office workflows.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a busy medical practice.
  • Compassionate and professional approach to patient care.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with physicians and other team members.
  • Understanding of HIPAA, OSHA, infection control, and patient privacy requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, or equivalent).
  • Previous experience in nephrology, internal medicine, primary care, or chronic disease management.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish strongly preferred.
  • Experience with insurance verification, referrals, medication prior authorizations, and care coordination.

Work Environment

This position involves direct patient interaction in a physician-office setting, computer work, and periods of sitting, standing, walking, and bending. Appropriate personal protective equipment is provided when required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the role.
