JOB SUMMARY, DESCRIPTION & QUALIFICATIONS:
Job Summary
Coordinates and personally delivers the instructional, facilitation, and operational work of the Community Safety Simulation Center (CSSC). This hands-on, role prepares and operates simulation technology; facilitates scenario-based learning experiences; and leads structured, evidence-informed debriefings that help participants examine their decision-making, communication, situational awareness, and application of professional practice. The position also develops and prepares adjunct trainers and other facilitators to deliver CSSC experiences consistently; coordinates contracted engagements; maintains scenarios, equipment, records, and facility readiness; and provides responsive customer support before, during, and after training.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
The following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully with or without reasonable accommodation.
Simulation Technology Operation and Facility Readiness (25%)
- Open, configure, test, operate, shut down, and secure simulation, audiovisual, recording, communication, control-room, computer, and related training systems for each scheduled engagement.
- Load and validate scenarios, media, branching logic, sound, lighting, recordings, participant views, instructor controls, and debriefing outputs before customers arrive.
- Complete pre-use and post-use checklists; reset rooms and equipment; charge devices; replenish supplies; and verify that the next engagement can begin on time.
- Perform first-line troubleshooting; document failures; coordinate vendor, IT, Facilities, or security support; and communicate operational risks promptly.
- Maintain equipment, software, license, warranty, inventory, preventive-maintenance, repair, replacement, and vendor-contact records.
Training, Simulation Facilitation, and Structured Debriefing (50%)
- Deliver assigned CSSC training using approved curriculum, learning objectives, scenarios, safety protocols, and evaluation tools, with primary emphasis on facilitating participant learning rather than simply operating the simulation.
- Brief participants on learning objectives, expectations, confidentiality, psychological and physical safety, technology, roles, and the purpose and process of the debriefing that follows the scenario.
- Facilitate simulations in real time, observe participant actions and decision points, and document relevant behavioral, communication, teamwork, and situational-awareness observations for use during debriefing.
- Lead structured post-scenario debriefings that create a psychologically safe environment for participants to reflect on what occurred, articulate their reasoning, examine assumptions, identify alternative actions, and connect the experience to professional practice.
- Use purposeful questioning, observation, playback or other available evidence, and adult-learning strategies to help participants analyze decision-making processes rather than merely evaluate whether an outcome was right or wrong.
- Adapt facilitation and debriefing techniques to the audience, learning objectives, scenario complexity, and customer context while maintaining fidelity to approved curriculum and established CSSC standards.
- Create an inclusive, trauma-informed learning environment; recognize emotional or safety concerns; and pause, modify, or stop activities when participant welfare, ethics, safety, or learning integrity requires intervention.
Adjunct Trainer Development and Facilitation Quality (5%)
- Train, orient, coach, and prepare adjunct faculty, contract trainers, facilitators, and other designated personnel to operate assigned scenarios and deliver CSSC learning experiences in accordance with established standards.
- Model effective participant briefing, scenario facilitation, observation, questioning, and structured debriefing practices, including methods for eliciting reflection on decision-making and professional judgment.
- Use facilitator guides, checklists, practice sessions, observation, and feedback to assess trainer readiness and promote consistent instructional quality across CSSC engagements.
- Maintain trainer resources and qualification records; identify development needs; and recommend additional preparation, coaching, or subject-matter support when needed.
Contract, Event, and Customer Implementation (10%)
- Translate each approved contract or internal request into an implementation plan identifying learning objectives, date/time, customer contacts, participant count, rooms, scenarios, staffing, equipment, materials, accessibility needs, security, billing documentation, and evaluation requirements.
- Coordinate readiness with the Learning Manager, salesperson/project manager, customer, faculty, adjunct trainers, actors, and support departments; maintain the master CSSC calendar; and identify conflicts or missing resources before delivery is at risk.
- Serve as the on-site delivery lead, welcome customers, coordinate participant and staff flow, respond to changing needs, document incidents or material changes, and ensure contracted training deliverables are completed.
- Collect participant, trainer, and customer feedback; complete attendance, trainer-payment, purchasing, usage, outcome, and invoicing-support documentation; and recommend improvements to training delivery, workflow, technology, and facility use.
Scenario, Content, and Records Coordination (10%)
- Maintain an organized library of approved scenarios, lesson plans, facilitator and debriefing guides, participant materials, media, releases, evaluations, and related training resources with appropriate access controls.
- Work with faculty, subject-matter experts, customers, and the Learning Manager to adapt scenarios and debriefing prompts while preserving intended learning outcomes, policy, safety, copyright, confidentiality, and technical reliability.
- Coordinate approved recording and content-production activities, including site access, releases, file naming, secure storage, retention, and archival requirements.
- Maintain accurate confidential records of participation, usage, incidents, equipment, customers, outcomes, trainer qualifications, and other required CSSC documentation.
