Job Description:

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is seeking a Part-Time Secretary I to support the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies. This position provides administrative and secretarial support, including coordinating classroom schedules, reserving conference rooms, ordering textbooks, and serving as a primary point of contact for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

 

A successful candidate will be a highly organized, detail-oriented, and dependable professional who enjoys supporting faculty, staff, students, and visitors. The ideal candidate will be comfortable managing multiple responsibilities, meeting deadlines, and coordinating tasks across the department while providing timely and courteous service.

 

This is a part-time, 20-hour-per-week, 11-month appointment.  The work schedule will be 4 hours per day, 5 days per week.


Examples of Duties:

  • Orders textbooks and coordinates classroom scheduling and course preparation.
  • Enters and updates class schedules in Workday.
  • Manages end-of-semester course evaluations and maintains course enrollment information.
  • Assists faculty with hiring graders and provides department support through Workday roles.
  • Collects faculty syllabi and prepares annual faculty evaluation templates.
  • Serves as key coordinator and responds to requests from faculty, staff, students, and visitors.
  • Serves as department contact for building services and Facilities Planning and Management (FP&M).
  • Maintains the department’s conference room schedule.
  • Manages office and workroom supplies and assists faculty with departmental needs.
  • Coordinates visitor paperwork, logistics, and hotel arrangements as needed.
  • Assists with department events, seminars, and the annual High School Ethics Bowl.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience coordinating schedules, meetings, events, visitors, or other administrative logistics.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy when maintaining records, entering information, and managing confidential or sensitive materials.
  • Experience using Workday or similar enterprise systems; ability to learn new systems and processes quickly.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar productivity tools, including email, calendars, word processing, spreadsheets, and shared documents.


Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.
