POSITION SUMMARY

The System Assembler builds, inspects, tests, and packages mechanical and electromechanical systems supporting GTA Containers’ defense applications. This position follows approved engineering drawings and work instructions to produce reliable assemblies, maintain accurate records, and meet production schedules. Safety, workmanship, and consistent quality are essential to success.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assemble mechanical and electromechanical components using hand tools, power tools, torque tools, fixtures, and approved assembly methods.
  • Read and follow engineering drawings, bills of materials, wiring diagrams, specifications, and current work instructions. Verify part numbers, quantities, and revisions before beginning work.
  • Fit, align, fasten, and connect components to specified dimensions and torque requirements. Identify incorrect parts, missing components, and assembly discrepancies.
  • Perform basic wiring tasks, including cutting, stripping, crimping, routing, and terminating wires, according to approved instructions and applicable customer requirements.
  • Conduct pressure, water, leak, and functional testing as assigned and trained. Follow specified test limits, safe setup procedures, and acceptance criteria; record results accurately.
  • Inspect workmanship during assembly, identify defects, and promptly notify the supervisor or Quality team. Segregate nonconforming material and complete rework only as authorized.
  • Prepare and verify component kits, labels, and packaging for system builds, shipment, and field deployment. Protect components against damage and contamination.
  • Complete production records, inspection checklists, test documentation, and required component traceability accurately and on time.
  • Follow GTA safety procedures and required PPE practices. Report hazards, incidents, and near misses promptly and pause work when conditions are unsafe.
  • Maintain tools, test equipment, and organized workstations using GTA’s 6S practices. Identify equipment problems and avoid using damaged or unsuitable tools.
  • Work with Production, Engineering, and Quality to resolve assembly issues and improve safety, quality, workflow, and delivery. Support cross-training and other related duties as assigned.




Requirements

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or GED, plus at least 1 year of mechanical or electromechanical assembly experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings, basic wiring diagrams, bills of materials, and written work instructions.
  • Ability to use common hand and power tools, torque tools, crimping tools, and basic measuring devices safely and accurately.
  • Basic math and measurement skills; ability to accurately record quantities, measurements, and test results.
  • Ability to communicate work status and concerns, follow procedures, and work effectively with others.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Technical certificate or trade school training in mechanical assembly, electrical systems, manufacturing, or a related field.
  • Experience in defense, military, aerospace, or another manufacturing environment with detailed quality and traceability requirements.
  • Experience with pressure or leak testing, fluid-handling components, wiring assemblies, and basic assembly troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing, 6S, standardized work, and electronic production or quality records.
