PRIMARY PURPOSE

 

The Associate Attorney shall serve The Navigators and fulfill the responsibilities listed below in the spirit of The Navigators calling, values and purpose: To advance the Gospel of Jesus and His kingdom into the nations through spiritual generations of laborers living and discipling among the lost.

 

This position will report to the General Counsel/SVP of Governance, People & Culture and will provide legal support across all aspects of the ministry’s worldwide operations, which will include immigration, contract management, enterprise risk management, compliance, intellectual property, and employment law.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

General Legal Functions                                                                                                          

·       Provides support to General Counsel in the areas of immigration research, drafting legal documents, contract review and management, constitutional law research and amicus briefs, intellectual property matters, legal budget management and general policy reviews and updates.

·       Assists field administrators, mission leaders and other personnel with immigration intake and assessment, fielding legal questions, and with general research in various fields of law.

·       Collaborates with field administrators and international staff member(s) seeking immigration assistance, letters of invitation and/or filing of an employment visa or other immigration submission(s), providing overview of current immigration landscape, preparing, and submitting immigration applications and related documents for submission.

·       Engages with outside legal counsel, along with General Counsel, for expert opinions on immigration, campus access, employment law, and others as needed.

·       Shares responsibility for the following functions as assigned:

­   Contract audit and review

­   Intellectual Property tracking and management

­   Policy review/audit/updating based on changes in legislation and compliance considerations

­   Board reports for advisory committees and legal updates


Specific Immigration Functions                                                                                      

·       Communicates effectively and clearly with staff members, field leaders and key stakeholders seeking immigration information and support

·       Conducts legal research and prepares/provides analysis of legislation in the immigration arena, keeping General Counsel abreast of updates and changes and submitting written reports on the same.

·       Prepares proper and accurate immigration petitions and assembles related filing documents in accordance with USCIS petition filing requirements for Navigator staff in the spaces of R-1 (R-2 spouse/dependent), B1Visitor Visa, L-1, H1B Lottery, I-360, I-131, I-765 filings, and I-485, among other potential USCIS petition filings in accordance with USCIS-generated specifications.

·       Maintains USCIS case management account and related databases, ensuring accurate records, timely updates, and compliance with applicable requirements.

·       Logs, maintains, and tracks immigration filings and related receipt notices and expiration dates, on a regular basis and creates reports on the same.

 

Additional Responsibilities

·       Conducts research and prepares/provides analysis of ministry impact in the areas of Campus Access, Religious Liberties, and other constitutional concerns.

·       Maintains documentation of job duties performed with an updated log.

·       Participates in Navigator events such as on-site Prayer Meetings, group Bible Studies, Nav2Nav gatherings, leadership training, team prayer, spiritual formation training, Cultural Development and Diversity trainings and conferences, and other non-Navigator developmental events as appropriate.

·       Reads spiritually and culturally developmental books and literature.

·       Participate in Navigators’ on-site learning and development events,

·       Participate in annual processes, such as the organizational Plan and Progress Review (PPR), Engagement Survey, Reaffirmation of the Navigators Code of Conduct, Calling-Core Values-Vision, Statement of Faith, Driver’s Authorization, and other releases as required.

·       Other job-related duties as assigned by direct supervisor.

·       Legal Expertise: An Associate Attorney must have a strong foundation in various areas of law relevant to the Navigators’ operations. This includes corporate law, contract law, legal risk management, employment law, intellectual property law, regulatory compliance, and immigration law.

·       Business Acumen: Must understand the Navigators’ business model, and strategic objectives to provide effective legal counsel. Must align legal advice with the Navigators’ overall goals and contribute to decision-making processes from a legal perspective.

·       Detail oriented: Strong attention to fine details and managing and organizing detailed data while balancing multiple projects.

·       Communication Skills: Must have the ability to effectively communicate and convey complex legal concepts clearly and persuasively to various stakeholders, including executives, employees, and external partners. Must be adept at conflict resolution.

·       Self-Motivated: Will initiate projects and follow through to completion.

·       Solution-Oriented: Able to troubleshoot and bring solutions to complex Issues

·       Humble: Leading with a posture of humility and with a desire to serve.

 

MINIMUM AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

Spiritual: Belief in and adherence to the Statement of Faith and Mission of The Navigators.

 

Experience: 3-5 years’ experience working within the field of law with an emphasis in immigration law, intellectual property, and contract administration, specifically for religious nonprofit organizations,

 

Technical Knowledge & Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excellent business, and legal writing ability

 

Communication & Leadership: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including verbal & written, to create understanding and build strong working relationships required. Ability to collaborate and communicate within a team, cross-missionally and cross-culturally

 

Education: Must hold a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school. State Bar Licensure (Colorado and/or Federal licensure preferred).


Compensation Range: $92,863.75 - $145,248.43 per year
