Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Procurement Director to lead strategic sourcing and supplier management for Automation Categories across Coupang's rapidly expanding fulfillment and logistics network. This leader will own category strategies for warehouse automation, robotics, material handling equipment (MHE), sortation systems, industrial controls, conveyor systems, and related technology infrastructure.

The successful candidate will drive cost optimization, supplier innovation, risk mitigation, and long-term procurement strategies that support Coupang's operational excellence and growth objectives 

What You Will Do

• Category Strategy & Leadership
  • Develop and execute multi-year category strategies for automation-related spend.
  • Manage procurement activities across robotics, automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS), conveyor and sortation systems, warehouse control systems, industrial automation, sensors, and related technologies.
  • Align sourcing strategies with Operations, Engineering, Fulfillment, Supply Chain, Finance, and Capital Projects teams.
  • Build procurement roadmaps supporting network expansion and automation initiatives.
• Strategic Sourcing
  • Lead high-value sourcing events, RFIs, RFPs, RFQs, and contract negotiations.
  • Deliver measurable savings, total cost of ownership (TCO) improvements, and value creation initiatives.
  • Evaluate global and regional suppliers for capability, quality, scalability, and innovation.
  • Drive supplier consolidation where appropriate while ensuring business continuity.
• Supplier Relationship Management
  • Establish executive-level relationships with key automation suppliers.
  • Lead supplier performance reviews and governance programs.
  • Develop strategic partnerships that accelerate innovation and operational efficiency.
  • Manage supplier risk, capacity planning, and business continuity strategies.
• Commercial & Contract Management
  • Negotiate complex commercial agreements, framework contracts, maintenance agreements, and service-level commitments.
  • Ensure favorable terms regarding pricing, warranties, service support, intellectual property, and performance guarantees.
  • Partner with Legal and Finance teams to manage contract compliance.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with Engineering and Operations teams on automation deployment projects.
  • Support capital expenditure planning and procurement governance.
  • Drive procurement involvement from project conception through implementation.
  • Influence stakeholders across multiple business units and geographies.
• Team Leadership
  • Lead and develop a high-performing category management team.
  • Establish procurement best practices, processes, and performance metrics.
  • Foster a data-driven and customer-focused culture.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 15+ years of progressive experience in procurement, with at least 7 years in infrastructure categories.
• Strong commercial acumen, negotiation skills, and contract management expertise.
• Experience managing global teams and multi-region supplier portfolios.
• Proficiency in procurement platforms (e.g., SAP Ariba, Coupa) and data analytics tools.
• Outstanding Leadership and Management Skills: Excellent problem-solving, team, and time management skills, with the ability to evaluate and counsel subordinates effectively.
• Exceptional Negotiation and Analytical Abilities: Strong reputation as a negotiator, leading complex agreements with suppliers, and deep understanding of cost drivers and cost models.
• Strategic and Results-Oriented Leadership: Known for employing fact-based analysis, world-class process expertise, and leading by example to achieve breakthrough performance.
• Global Experience and Executive Presence: Significant executive presence, ability to represent the organization effectively.
