Value Stream Engineer

Ontic is a leading global aerospace OEM trusted by the world’s aviation leaders. With over 1,300 employees across four time zones and seven sites, we have more than doubled in size since 2019 and continue to grow at pace.

Our team is looking for a Value Stream Engineer to join them. You will report to the Director of Engineering and will have an onsite work structure in Creedmoor, North Carolina.

The Value Stream Engineer is responsible for the technical support and execution of assigned product lines within the Value Stream. Working within an Integrated Product Team (IPT) structure, you will provide technical leadership throughout the lifecycle of programs and projects while partnering closely with Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Sales, and Value Stream leadership.

This role combines technical expertise, project execution, and cross-functional leadership. You will help develop and manage project plans, schedules, technical requirements, risks, and engineering deliverables while serving as a key technical interface between customers, Engineering, and the broader business.

To be considered for the Value Stream Engineer opening, here’s what you’ll need to bring with you:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Aerospace, or another related engineering discipline, or equivalent experience within a technical field.
  • 2 to 5 years of manufacturing experience within a production, engineering, or value stream environment.
  • Experience developing or supporting project plans, schedules, and budgets for small to mid-size technical projects.
  • Experience working within cross-functional teams, preferably within an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and production environments.
  • Ability to coordinate technical activities and deliverables across multiple business functions.
  • Experience identifying, evaluating, and mitigating technical and project risks.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to drive technical issues through resolution.
  • Exposure to ERP/MRP systems and production planning tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and technical deliverables in a fast-paced environment.
  • Customer-focused mindset with the ability to build relationships based on transparency, responsiveness, and trust.
  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately 5 to 10% as required.

As a Value Stream Engineer, you will:

  • Provide technical leadership and engineering support for assigned product lines within the Value Stream.
  • Own and coordinate engineering deliverables throughout the lifecycle of assigned programs and projects.
  • Support the development and execution of project plans, schedules, technical requirements, and applicable budgets.
  • Lead the technical delivery of complex work packages while coordinating cross-functional resources within an IPT structure.
  • Partner closely with Value Stream and Engineering leadership to support business and program objectives.
  • Translate customer and business requirements into clearly defined technical requirements and engineering deliverables.
  • Monitor changes in customer, technical, and program requirements and evaluate potential technical, schedule, and contractual impacts.
  • Serve as a technical interface between customers, Engineering, and other internal stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain effective customer relationships through proactive communication, transparency, and technical support.
  • Collaborate with Engineering managers and technical teams to support the on-time delivery of engineering commitments.
  • Coordinate with Operations, Supply Chain, Sales, Engineering, and Value Stream leadership to resolve technical issues affecting program execution or production.
  • Identify, evaluate, manage, and mitigate technical risks throughout the program and product lifecycle.
  • Drive timely resolution of technical issues that could prevent progression of work within the IPT.
  • Manage technical communication and escalation between internal and external customers and Engineering.
  • Communicate program and technical status effectively across working teams and management-level stakeholders.
  • Promote collaboration and effective communication across the organization.
  • Ensure engineering activities comply with applicable engineering processes, methodologies, standards, and requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to product performance, engineering execution, and Value Stream effectiveness.

Our Benefits:

  • Comprehensive medical insurance
  • Competitive PTO, holiday pay, and sick leave
  • Company 401K plan with up to 4% matched contribution
  • Annual bonus program (varies by level and discretionary based on company and individual performance)
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • 9/80 schedule
  • Paid volunteering opportunities
  • Access to mental health champions across our sites
  • Commitment to development
  • Employee referral program
