Description

The Opportunity: The School Maintenance Worker maintains a safe, clean, functional, and well-maintained school facility. This position performs routine maintenance and repairs throughout the building and grounds, conducts regular inspections, identifies maintenance concerns, and promptly reports issues requiring specialized services or outside contractors to the School Operations Manager.
The Maintenance Worker works closely with the School Operations Manager to ensure that facility needs are addressed
promptly and that the school environment remains safe and operational for scholars, staff, and families.
The Details
Key Deliverables:
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs throughout the school building and grounds
- Repair or replace basic hardware, fixtures, furniture, doors, locks, handles, shelving, and other facility items as needed
- Perform minor plumbing repairs, such as replacing faucets, handles, toilet components, and other basic fixtures
- Perform minor electrical and facility repairs within the employee’s training and authorized responsibilities
- Address basic heating, cooling, and ventilation maintenance concerns and report larger system issues
- Repair walls, ceilings, flooring, trim, and other building surfaces when appropriate
- Assist with painting, touch-ups, and general building improvements
- Assemble, install, relocate, and maintain school equipment and furnishing
- Respond to maintenance requests from school administration and staff
- Ensure daily building readiness by checking and maintaining appropriate temperatures and monitoring heating, cooling, and ventilation systems; make authorized thermostat adjustments, identify and document recurring temperature concerns, and promptly report HVAC issues or malfunctions to the School Operations Manager.
- Conduct routine building and grounds inspections, identify safety and maintenance concerns, and document and report needed repairs
- Identify and report specialized repair needs, coordinate contractor access and on-site support, and follow up on outstanding maintenance issues
- Maintain a safe, compliant work environment by following safety procedures, addressing hazards, using equipment and materials properly, securing work areas, and documenting inspections and maintenance activities.
- Maintain organized maintenance areas, tools, equipment, and supplies; support school events and facility need, address weather-related concerns, and perform other operational duties as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous experience in building maintenance, facilities, construction, custodial maintenance, or a related field preferred
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, HVAC, and general building maintenance
