Civil Engineer - M&O (Facilities)

Overview

Cordoba Corporation, a leading civil engineering firm in CA, is hiring a Civil Engineer to join our Facilities Sector.The Civil Engineer is responsible for providing advanced civil engineering expertise in the planning, design, and construction of facility and site improvement projects. This role supports the development and review of project scope, schedules, budgets, and Project Requirement Documents, while ensuring compliance with District standards and design guidelines. The Civil Engineer performs complex engineering analyses, reviews and certifies civil design plans, and provides technical leadership to architects, consultants, and project teams. Responsibilities include oversight of site development elements such as grading, paving, parking layouts, storm drainage, sewer systems, streets, fencing, and other infrastructure improvements associated with new construction and major renovation projects. The position also coordinates closely with District staff and external stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery from concept through construction.

Responsibilities

• Assists in defining and reviewing the Project Requirement Document scope of work and schedule including interim housing requirements
• Performs highly complex civil engineering work related to the planning, design, and construction of District facilities and site improvements; provides technical direction to District personnel, commissioned architects, and consulting engineers; and certifies civil engineeringdesign plans.
• Apply civil engineering principles, practices, processes, and procedures to the planning, design, and construction of FSD projects, including project scope development, budget preparation, design review, and technical coordination with District and external professional staff.
• Provides technical direction to commissioned architects and consulting civil engineers regarding District policies, standards, and design guidelines for site development, including grading, paving, fencing, parking layouts, streets, storm drainage, sewer systems, and othersite improvements associated with new construction and major alterations to existing facilities and sites.
• Provides technical direction to personnel within the Civil Engineering Unit in the preparation and review of project scope documents, topographic surveys, design drawings, specifications, and related technical documents.
• Obtains and manages contracts and task orders for civil engineering, land surveying, and related professional services.
• Reviews civil engineering plans, specifications, and related documents prepared by commissioned architects and consulting engineers for conformance with District policies, standards, design guidelines, applicable codes, and project requirements; identifies conflictswith other architectural and engineering features and directs or recommends necessary revisions.
• Develops, updates, and maintains civil engineering standards, guidelines, and specifications to ensure compliance with applicable building codes, safety requirements, and industry practices and to promote quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness in construction, maintenance, and operation.
• Directs and reviews site development studies to determine the feasibility and estimated cost ofsite grading, street improvements, utility improvements, and other civil engineering requirements associated with property acquisition and development.
• Provides technical advice and resolves civil engineering issues encountered during construction; advises contractors, commissioned architects and engineers, District construction inspectors, and other project personnel regarding civil engineering requirements and field conditions.
• Provides professional certification of civil engineering designs and documents for assigned District and commissioned projects, as authorized by applicable professional licensing requirements.
• Coordinates with the City of Los Angeles and civil engineering consultants to obtain review andapproval of drawings and permits for off-site improvements adjacent to District school sites,including B-Permit and A-Permit work such as sidewalks, driveways, bus drop-offs, ADA curb ramps, and related improvements; coordinates permit closeout activities.
• Assists the Real Estate Department with civil engineering matters related to property transactions, including preparation and review of legal descriptions, determination of easements, updating of parcel maps, and closure of street vacations.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a recognized college and university with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
• Minimum eight (8) years’ full-time paid professional experience in civil design on commercial or public agency projects, preferably in educational facilities
• Experience in AutoCAD software design
• Proficiency in office computer software (Word, Excel, Adobe, etc.)
• A valid license as a Professional Engineer in Civil Engineering issued by the California State Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.

Salary Range: $151,000 - $166,000/yearly

Location: Los Angeles, CA

Work Environment: Onsite
