Playground Club is a partnership with the City of Santa Monica and the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District. Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Monica provides safe, consistent after-school supervision at seven local SMMUSD elementary schools. We are open Monday through Friday from school dismissal until 5 p.m. on-site at your school. Programming is held outside. 

Our Youth Development Professionals (YDPs) supervise and implement a variety of high-yield activities and targeted programs with Club members (1st-5th grade). A YDP  implements the following activities and programs: snack, recreation, play-based games and curriculum, sports, arts, and social-emotional learning.  A YDP also helps members make appropriate choices about their education, career, social, physical, and emotional needs.  

Essential Functions of the Position

• Support school outreach, back-to-school, and family engagement activities to share knowledge about Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Monica Programming. Support membership enrollment. 
• Build positive, supportive relationships with elementary youth. 
• Assure youth are safe and engaged in activities. This includes following all Boys & Girls Clubs safety requirements, such as adhering to check-in/check-out procedures, actively engaging during programming, and actively monitoring program spaces. 
• Provide positive mentorship, coaching, and role modeling to elementary youth. 

Requirements

Qualifications for the Ideal Candidate 

• Ability to work Monday through Friday between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m.; general hours will be scheduled for 15-25 hours per week during the School Year. Summer hours are assigned based on enrollment and attendance and are not guaranteed. 
• Must have one of the following: At least/minimum of 48 credit hours (combined from institutions or one institution); Earned an Associate's Degree (AA conferred);  Have a BA or higher;  Have taken and passed the CBEST minimum requirements and can provide passing certification documentation. 
• At least two years of experience working with youth, preferably with elementary youth. Previous experience working in a Boys & Girls Club or similar youth-serving organization is a plus. 
• Experience facilitating programs and developing engaging, educational activities for youth. 
• Good character, integrity, and adaptability. 
• Must lead with good judgment, set healthy boundaries, demonstrate patience, and show emotional intelligence. 
• Experience working with diverse populations and communities and knowledge of how to build an inclusive environment. 
• Background check and TB test clearance required. 
• Must obtain/maintain a current CPR & First Aid Certification upon employment
