Job Purpose:

The Health Insurance Specialist is responsible for working closely with Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) Singapore Relationship Managers and Insurance Specialists to generate qualified customer referrals and deliver sales of the Bupa Global SCB international private medical insurance product to eligible Priority Private and high-net-worth customers.

 

The role provides needs-based product advice, manages customers through the end-to-end sales and application journey, and delivers regular product and sales training to Standard Chartered Relationship Managers and Insurance Specialists. The role is accountable for achieving assigned sales targets while delivering suitable customer outcomes and complying with Bupa, Standard Chartered and applicable Singapore regulatory requirements.

 

How you’ll help us make health happen:

• Build strong working relationships with Standard Chartered Bank Singapore Relationship Managers and Insurance Specialists across the relevant Priority Private and private banking segments.
• Develop a consistent pipeline of qualified referrals through regular engagement, branch or banking-centre visits, joint customer activity and structured follow-up.
• Deliver regular training to SCB Relationship Managers and Insurance Specialists on the Bupa Global SCB IPMI proposition, customer eligibility, referral processes, sales positioning and approved customer communications.
• Support SCB Relationship Managers and Insurance Specialists in identifying customers for whom international private medical insurance may be relevant.
• Conduct needs-based customer discussions and recommend a suitable Bupa Global SCB IPMI product in accordance with approved sales, suitability and compliance processes.
• Achieve assigned sales, conversion, referral and activity targets.
• Manage the full customer journey, including referral follow-up, fact-finding, quotation, application, documentation, underwriting coordination, payment and policy issuance.
• Conduct initial eligibility and application-completeness checks and refer medical disclosures or complex cases to Bupa Underwriting.
• Maintain an accurate sales pipeline and provide regular reporting on referrals, appointments, conversion, issued business and forecast performance.
• Use pipeline data to identify referral or conversion gaps and agree improvement actions with SCB stakeholders and the Senior Health Insurance Specialist.
• Work with Bupa Underwriting, Operations, Sales Support, Marketing and Compliance teams to progress cases and resolve issues.
• Maintain complete and accurate customer and sales records and comply with applicable data privacy, conduct and regulatory requirements.
• Gather feedback from customers and SCB stakeholders to improve training, referral quality, the sales process and customer experience.

 

Key Skills/Qualifications needed for this role:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience in business, finance, insurance or a related field is preferred.
• Holds, or is able to obtain before appointment, all qualifications, licences and approvals required to conduct the role in Singapore.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and completion of all required regulatory and product training.
• Fluency in English is essential. Additional language capability relevant to Standard Chartered Singapore’s customer base, including Mandarin, would be advantageous.
• Proven record of achieving individual sales targets in health insurance, life insurance, wealth protection or another regulated financial-services environment.
• Experience in bank distribution, bancassurance, wealth management or a high-net-worth customer environment.
• Strong stakeholder-management skills and the ability to influence Relationship Managers and Insurance Specialists without direct authority.
• Demonstrated ability to generate and manage referrals, maintain a disciplined sales pipeline and improve conversion.
• Experience delivering product training, sales coaching or presentations to distribution partners.
• Strong consultative-selling, presentation, negotiation and objection-handling skills.
• Knowledge of IPMI or medical insurance products, customer suitability and underwriting processes.
• Confidence engaging with affluent, Priority Private and high-net-worth customers in person and through digital channels.
• Strong CRM, pipeline reporting and digital-sales-tool capability.
